Okay so I thought id post this thread instead of a new post on my restoration thread so it gets more people viewing it :P

I've been looking how to spray paint radiators and I've had some mixed answers some say it can block the fins up and prevent cooling and some say it'll be fine with radiator paint?

It does have a radiator guard on it which could be sprayed black and potentially cover up the dints and paint scuffs on the radiator but I want this bike to be mint so I'd prefer the radiator painted :(

Another question, I saw bonniebirds thread the other day on about autosol (looked awesome by the way) what can I use this on?

Can I use it on the head stock/yoke thing, handle bars, forks? :(

And what paint would I use on the forks, just ordinary paint that I'd be using on the fairings?

The forks have pitted rust will they be alright sanded out or do I need specialist stuff?

I'm so confused and don't want to mess anything up :crybaby:

Thanks all :)

I've been looking how to spray paint radiators and I've had some mixed answers some say it can block the fins up and prevent cooling and some say it'll be fine with radiator paint? - Gently applied spray paint (heat tolerant type) will be OK - If you have the rad in a horizontal position to spray, then the paint will run through rather than drip across the gaps.It does have a radiator guard on it which could be sprayed black and potentially cover up the dints and paint scuffs on the radiator but I want this bike to be mint so I'd prefer the radiator painted :(

Can I use it on the head stock/yoke thing, handle bars, forks? :( Basically any chrome work but - It is abrasive!

And what paint would I use on the forks, just ordinary paint that I'd be using on the fairings? If you have taken the original paint back to base metal, then 2-part or powder would be best. Failing than, Polyurathene (multiple coats) would do a good job. If there is original paint still on the metalwork, you need to use the recommended (makers) paint - Halfrauds should be able to assist. The forks have pitted rust will they be alright sanded out or do I need specialist stuff? Are you talking painted metal or chromed? If metal, sand and re-paint. If chrome, use solvol autosol NOT sandpaper.

Thanks all :)

Thanks GOG :)

I'm going out tomorrow to get some new bolts so I'll nip into halfrauds and get some autosol :)

I'll perhaps send the bottom of the forks to that fast line who powder coated my frame to powder coat them as well :)

The top of the fork is chrome so will autosol just take the rust straight out? failing this, what else?

Thanks :)

The autosol will remove small pits do a good clean up job but if the chrome is badly pitted the best option is to have the fork tube restored by a professional - they will regrind the tube and rechrome it. Not sure of the cost but I've seem a website offering this service somewhere in the greater London area.
