I write to You regarding an issue I have with my Contiroadattack, which may influence riding comfort and safety.

My tires are of size as follows:

110/70-17 54W

150/70-17 69V

The problem is, rear tire’s tread is set opposite to the one in the front tire.

Assuming, we put both tires on a bike paying attention to arrows on the tires, front tire’s tread would be “against riding direction”.

To take it logically, rear tire’s tread seems to be ok.

Here are links picturing my problem:

I would be greatful to get comprehensive answer regarding my problem.

P.S. Front tire is of Korean production (1707), rear one is German (4907).

Looking at your pics, and I am no motorbike mechanic mind you, I'd say that as they go on the bike, the direction arrows on the tires refer to the orientation of the tire RELATIVE to the bike.

So, if you look at

The tire marked with the "rear" arrow is correct if the front of the bike is facing to the left of the picture (with the tire rotated around the hub 180 degrees so that the word "rear" is upright, of course).

The tire marked "front" however is not facing the right way according to the arrow - it needs to be rotated on the upright axis before mounting so that the arrow points the opposite direction. That way, the treads are facing in the same direction and, to my eye, appropriately for shedding water at speed!

G'luck to ya!

I just googled the tyre in images and got:

ContiRoad Attack Direction?

The orientation of the ContiRoad Attack front has recently been revised. Conti Germany responded to feed-back from the UK and other markets about maximising the already incredible durability of the original front tread pattern. After the launch of the ContiSport Attack test riders commented on the fact that the reversed tread direction gave much more uniform wear across the tyres section and so the ContiRoad Attack front pattern was switched in late October 2006 to take advantage of this better wear characteristic. Some confusion exists because some European plants outside of Germany have a tread mould with small arrows at the edge of the tread near the sidewall, these arrows should be ignored. These moulds are being replaced. ContiRoad attack customers may be offered the same tyre with apparently two different directions of rotation. The tread pattern on both tyres is fine. Riders should be aware that all relevant and legally required information regarding speed rating and direction of rotation is moulded into the side-wall of the tyre, not the tread, so be sure your tyre is fitted in accordance with the directional arrow on the sidewall regardless of which way the pattern runs.

Cheers guys, this tread probally just saved me heaps of phone calls to Conti.

Got totally confused when found that my new tyre's front tread was opposite to my old conti tyre!!!

You'ld think that they would put some info on their web site about this.

I wonder what the handlings gonna be like?
