Guest Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Hi guys, I'm new the forum! I bought a CB-1 400cc 3 years ago. I very rarely rode it as it only ever started from the button for me a couple of times so I always had to ride out with other friends and even so I wasn't too keen on that. I had it restricted straight away, having only just passed my test and I believe that made it even less willing to start. It sat almost unused on the road for the 2 years it was roadworthy. This past year I haven't bothered to insurance, tax or MOT it and it has now been sat in a shed for a year.I am not mechanically minded and I have no idea where to start restoring it for sale. It's ceased up, covered in rust and I'd still have to rectify the starting problem. In at the deep end here! Any tips on what to do and where to start please?? Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 hi and welcome to the forum from the sounds of it the bike might not be worth doing up due to he cost of sorting it out when you say its seized up do you mean the engine or the brakes or the chain has rusted up to stop it moving if you can chuck a couple of pics up it might help and also pop into newbies section and intrduce yourself and you will find we are a friendly helpfull bunch Quote
Guest Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I mean that it's very rusty and very hard to move. Will grab a couple of pics on Saturday when I collect it from my parents. I'm hoping that it's a case of clearing up the rust and a good service (not that I know how to go about doing that ) but even if I spend a couple of hundred on it, providing it starts afterwards then I am quids in from what it's worth now. But figuring out what's actually wrong with it will be a whole other story I'm sure. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 put your location in profile as well there might be local members who can offer help and advice in person as several on here have found out we do try to help where possible Quote
Tango Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I agree with EAB.....your location may turn up guys local that wouldn't mind taking a look at the bike and offering advice.Anyway.....sounds like the calipers are stuck or seized....so they will probably need stripping and cleaning and possibly having new seals fitted.....just for starters....
