Vented textiles with removable thermal liners do a reasonable job of being all year round gear, I've found. But of course, using the same kit in all seasons means it wears twice as fast, so you don't really save any money. You just get a little too hot in summer and a little too cold in winter

I'm with Ollie. Even with summer gear it can get hot (does anyone else ride with knees outstretched to cool the pods at the height of summer?).

In your shoes I'd be investing in summer gear now while deals are to be found then look at proper winter gear when the weather turns.
