so picked up my first bike for a bit of a project. a intruder vl125. now it needs tidying up badly so first i want to see if it runs. popped a new battery in it went to try and turn it over and nothing. clutch in, gearbox in neutral and kick stand down. the starter will turn over by crossing the solenoid terminals that sit to the left of the battery. i seem to get no spark though. any one advise me whats going on here? also anyone point me in the right direction of getting some parts for this bike? i need a bit of chrome that sits on the left side air filter and an exhaust straight from the heads to the back. basically a full system.

You need to start with the basics!

Fully charged battery? clean/fresh fuel?

fuel turned on? kill switch on?

neutral light on?

Welcome to TMBF mate. ......pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can. ..... 8-)

As Rennie says.....check the basics first.......are any lights coming on? Could be a fuse blown. Shorting the starter relay will get the motor to spin, but if there's no power to anything else you'll not get a spark......

Regarding the exhaust. I'd be inclined to try and get hold of a better quality second hand Suzuki one from fleabay (other sites available) rather than an aftermarket new one (unless you are planning on buying new genuine). Most of the OEM ones for 125s I've come across look lovely and shiny to start with but are shockingly bad, turning to rust in about a year.

Right guys got the engine running. Shorted out the solenoid beside the battery and it turns over. Checked the neutral switch the clutch switch and the stand switch all free. What's next I wonder. Ignition lights and everything turns on. Hitting the starter button with the lights on doesn't dim them or anything

starts with the button but now theres no spark! what the bloody hell is wrong now!? i am told that if a batterys voltage drops below a certain level the ignitor cant engage correctly even though the starter motor is turning over quickly?

use a multi meter on the battery and see what the voltage drop is on the battery when you turn it over on the start button,if its turning over ok then chances are its either a fault somewhere in the wiring or the coil or the cdi knackered

Right starts using the button now and runs with good sparks from both cylinders. But now a new problem. The rear cylinder runs like a champion. But the front cylinder won't fire at all. It's as if it isn't getting any fuel. I have had the fuel tank off the thing and I'm not sure I have got all the pipes on the carburettor put back properly. Also it won't rev unless the choke is on.
