Hi folks,

My first post here. I went today to check up on my 08 Speed Triple 1050 which has been sitting in the garage for a few months and noticed a small puddle of water underneath her.

The last time I rode the bike, I didn't notice any leaks but that was in September and she's been sitting in the garage ever since. I am often in the garage and have not noticed any leaks so am a bit puzzled how it can all seem to come out in a day. The fluid on the floor was clear in colour so not sure if it had had a sufficient amount of antifreeze.

On closer inspection, I think I found where it has all leaked out? I'm really not very mechanically minded.

I gave the hose connected to the water pump a wiggle(!) but it seems to be tight. Is it the hose, waterpump, head gasket? What is the green slimey stuff? The expansion tank under the seat is empty.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks:)

Green slime is antifreeze reacting with air

Triumph recommend OAT coolant not general antifreeze as it will corrode engine parts

That is the waterpump housing and sometimes the clips weaken even though they give the impression of tightened.

The water under the bike should have had some colour to it

Judging by the engine casing you have a little bit of corrosion around the bike you may find you have some around the water pump outlet under the hose which is causing it to leak a little

I would be tempted to remove the hose and clean it all up just to be sure then refit

Did you taste it? Dip your finger in it and touch it on your tongue - if it's got a sweet taste then it's antifreeze.

If it tastes like cat piss then it's cat piss.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions and advice. I'm going to take off the hose and check for corrosion. Hopefully, it was just the pipe being loose.

Thanks again :)

Re the mark on the engine casing ...has the bike been dropped/slid along ground ... this may have caused the pump outlet to be bent/damaged allowing the hose to seep ?

Just for my education - what does cat piss taste like then?
