Westbeef Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Ive developed a hole in my exhaust, it appears to be an attempted patch up that has now failed. Pic below, its on the bottom where the down pipes come together. Any advice on if it can be welded and how much I can expect to pay? I know I can get some stainless pipes but if I can get it patched cheap I'd rather do that for now. I wouldn't be changing any header pipes myself after my track record .http://i.imgur.com/bjL6iR7.jpg Quote
Stu Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 stainless full race system with power commander all set up on a dyno ....there is no other way Its hard to see what the material around it is like! if its solid enough then a good welder would be able to sort it for you although I suspect the system will need to come off to get to it properly! Mr Fro Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Could you bodge it up with a bit of exhaust bandage, fire gum and beer cans until an eBay special turns up?If you're going to the hassle of taking it off to be welded, you might as well pop something nicer on. Quote

I was gonna do so with some RTV however if it could be welded in situ I might get away with £20-£30 rather than doubling what I was going to pay for the end can . Quote
Mr Fro Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Shame you're not closer Beefs, I would have slapped a patch on for *insert price of full titanium/carbon akropovic system minus £4*.Or biscuits. Quote
Tango Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Don't Delkevic do just headers for your bike?.......then you can stick whichever end can you like on it...... Quote
Westbeef Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 Don't Delkevic do just headers for your bike?.......then you can stick whichever end can you like on it...... They do but its expensive to do it that way, bit over my budget! 200 for the headers and 200 for the exhaust I want. Its 310 for the set from delkevic, Ive also gotta pay someone else to fit it and hope they don't snap the studs as I defo would end up snapping them Quote

Westbeef Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 I was thinking about doing something like that Bob, but it'll eventually fail again and I plan on keeping this one for a while . So if I'm doing the end can anyway I may as well get a full system and save me having to sort it out in 6 months time . Quote

Westbeef Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 Plan of action sorted, going for a full stainless system. Spoke to a new-ish garage, local that had been recommended quite highly, showed me around the place and everything he had going on. Couple of hours labour to fit the exhaust(providing the studs don't snap) when I get it, he'll even see if he can source the same one cheaper AND he will throw it on the dyno for free after and get me a power reading .With me changing the whole system, it's a like for like so I wont need a power commander will I? He's going to tune it a bit on the dyno and get it running leaner for me, says it's better for on the road. Quote
ThePhatomfart Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Hi Beefy , if that's what you doing a PC would help for mapping and do the Clean air mod before the Dyno , that doesn't cost anything Quote

ThePhatomfart Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Would check out the K&N experience , a lot said on both sides for and against , he might not do the Clean air mod, its not necessarily part of the Dyno run Quote
Mawsley Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Bought a Black Widow system for the XJ - I'm very impressed.Lovely exhaust note with and without the baffle, it turned the bike from a slow boring barge into something a bit more fruity. If they had one for the XT I'd have bought it. Quote

It was going so well!He can't touch any fueling without a power commander so how he is going to tune it I don't know Quote
Mr Fro Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Yeah a PC is out of the question £350 that's more than the system I'm buying PC my nob. Have a look at these.Injection, ignition or a combined unit. Fully mappable and all that jazz - it's so easy that even I can do it! Quote
Westbeef Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 Maybe I misunderstood him then, and he was just showing me what he does to other bikes. It might just be a power reading he is doing me, I'll find out for defo . Quote
