John3389 Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 First off hi everyone.I wanted to get some opinions on what i should do. I'm currently 22 going to be 23 in September so about a year and a half till I'm 24. My question is should i do the A2 licence now and then do the das when I'm 24 or get a 125 until I'm 24 then do the das. I just wondered about waiting because it'd save doing the tests twice.Any advice would be much appreciatedThanks Quote
Troy Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 If you can be patient, then I would wait until your 24. While waiting, get your CBT done to get a feel for riding and that way you can can get some practice of riding on the roads. Lots of nice 125 options out there and even some nice machines suitable for an A2 license if you want to do it now. You can get one of these on an A2.... CBR500R Quote

Thanks for your reply, i think i was leaning more towards waiting. Would you recommend getting some lessons on a 125 after my CBT? Quote
Joeman Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 Have you ever ridden a motorbike? You might not like it!Go and do your CBT. If you enjoy that you won't be able to stay off the road for a year and a half waiting, you'll want to get a bike and start riding.Get a cheap 125cc bike, ride it about on L-plates, build up your no claims bonus so that when you do turn 24 you will be able to do the das in a few days, and have cheaper insurance on a bigger bike as you will have one years NCB. Westbeef Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 I'm with Joe^^Lessons wont hurt if you feel you need them, but if you come out of the CBT feeling fairly confident then just ride yourself until you're 24! They'll do all your teaching then and iron out any bad habits you may have picked up. A year on my 125 before doing my test probably helped me out quite a lot. Get a Japanese 125 second hand and in 18 months it will have barely depreciated, you'll make a small loss. Also with the insurance thing, my 600 sport is cheaper than my 125 was, this year . Quote
Arwen Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 I agree with Joe too. Unless you have money to waste and really need a bike more than a 125cc right now, just get a 125cc just now and wait till your 24 and do the full test. I spent nearly 2 years on a 125 before doing my full test. I think it helped a lot, and prepares you better for the unexpected that may happen on your test in my opinion. Quote
John3389 Posted April 20, 2017 Author Posted April 20, 2017 Thanks for all the replies guys! I think I'll get my CBT booked and see how i find that. If i enjoy that then I'll get a 125 until I'm 24 Quote
Hoggs Posted April 20, 2017 Posted April 20, 2017 well most of it has been said so I'll add mention to the cbt place you want to do it on a geared bike. tougher to get the hang of than a twist and go but if you want to get into bigger bikes in a year then you may as well get the benefit of a professional teach you how to work the gears good luck keep us updated Quote
