Blown fuse

Recommended Posts

Hi all-I have a Suzuki GN 125 and yesterday on the way home I pulled up to a junction and the bike died on me-had to walk home pushing bike 3 miles!

Had a look this morning and turns out the fise had blown...I had a spare and installed it and bike fired up straight away and seems fine all lights etc working

My questions is-can a fuse just blow suddenly or is there going to be an underlying issues

Thanks

Check the voltage at the battery with the bike running.......may be over charging.

Fuses do age......what did the blown fuse look like? Was it all black on the inside, or was there just a crack in the fuse wire?

It does get ridden every day and is over a year old (the fuse I mean)

It's not black it's just snapped and seems to have white speckles inside if that makes sense

if the fuse is only a year old I suspect you will have an underlying issue somewhere

Check connections for corrosion and wiring loom for chaffing

Also moved to the right section

Ok I'll have a look at the wiring when it's not raining-I'm not the best with electrical things so might be difficult

What am I looking for exactly? Just corrosion

Is it an old style glass fuse ?

They are prone to vibration blowing and old age and can be one of those things

It's done it' job and seeing it didn't blow the new one instantly it can not be a serious fault . This is not saying there's no issue but it may be a chafed wire that catches now and again but it's not a direct short

Plus check too see if it the correct fuse rating as standard as previous may have incorrectly replaced it with wrong amperage

Thanks for the reply-yeah it's the old style glass ones and my roads are quite rough to be honest so fingers crossed it's just that

I'll be in touch if it comes back-thanks again
