Guest Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Hi all-I have a Suzuki GN 125 and yesterday on the way home I pulled up to a junction and the bike died on me-had to walk home pushing bike 3 miles!Had a look this morning and turns out the fise had blown...I had a spare and installed it and bike fired up straight away and seems fine all lights etc workingMy questions is-can a fuse just blow suddenly or is there going to be an underlying issuesThanks Quote
Tango Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Check the voltage at the battery with the bike running.......may be over charging.Fuses do age......what did the blown fuse look like? Was it all black on the inside, or was there just a crack in the fuse wire? Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 It does get ridden every day and is over a year old (the fuse I mean)It's not black it's just snapped and seems to have white speckles inside if that makes sense Quote
Stu Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 if the fuse is only a year old I suspect you will have an underlying issue somewhere Check connections for corrosion and wiring loom for chaffingAlso moved to the right section Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Ok I'll have a look at the wiring when it's not raining-I'm not the best with electrical things so might be difficultWhat am I looking for exactly? Just corrosion Quote
TimR Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Is it an old style glass fuse ? They are prone to vibration blowing and old age and can be one of those thingsIt's done it' job and seeing it didn't blow the new one instantly it can not be a serious fault . This is not saying there's no issue but it may be a chafed wire that catches now and again but it's not a direct short Quote
TimR Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Plus check too see if it the correct fuse rating as standard as previous may have incorrectly replaced it with wrong amperage Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Thanks for the reply-yeah it's the old style glass ones and my roads are quite rough to be honest so fingers crossed it's just thatI'll be in touch if it comes back-thanks again Quote
