It's a double edged sword really!

Thell the public so they are aware but in the meantime let others know what to do

Once the burnt out wreck is discovered, it is wrongly assumed to be Bike A due to the numberplate and it is removed from the Police stolen file (the PNC). As Bike A is now no longer listed as stolen on the PNC, another plate is made and that bike is quickly sold to an innocent purchaser, often under the premise of it being an unwanted recent purchase so the V5 is 'in the post'.

But bike A would still come up as stolen on an HPI .... and who with any sense would swallow " the logbooks in the post "

I sold a bike years ago when the V5 was genuinely in the post. I said I would hold the bike until the V5 arrived, but the young lad insisted on handing over the cash and riding off on the bike.

The V5 arrived the next day and I zipped round and posted it through his letter box.

I still can't believe anybody could be so naive and trusting - although I do have an honest face ..... :D

I read an interesting add for a nice bike last week, something along the lines of, unwanted present, log book lost so needs to be applied for.

I wish I got presents like that.

I think the only unwanted present with that will be the police knocking on your door
