A Harley with no noise

If I ever got a Harley it would be for that glorious noise .... no fook off Harley and stop being so stupid with your electric shite .

I got into electric model aircraft big time when lipos and brushless motors meant you could have insane power to weight ratios. So electric can be fun. In most cases the lack of noise from small high revving glow engines meant we could fly almost anywhere.

The best bit was the scale Spitfire where the guy used speakers to replicate the noise of a Merlin. So you got a model Spitfire that sounded right, a nice growl rather than the usual buzz of a small capacity 2 stroke revving at 18,000rpm.

So if HD want to go electric they could install a sound system to create the right noise.

I have gone down a slightly different route by scaling up various Keil Kraft rubber powered models and fitting mini Outrunners and micro servos . I can only fly in still conditions but it's wonderfully relaxing .

What's the bottom one, the bi-plane? It's lovely.

That's a Mercury Tiger moth built entirely from the plan . Everything was hand cut and it's covered in tissue . By the way , I get all my plans free from Outerzone Plans . Just download and print then glue all the A4 sheets together .

Have we got some RC people on here then?

My late father-in-law had a huge collection of RC stuff - planes (prop & jet), boats and cars/buggies/monster trucks with zillions of parts. There's a couple of Blazing Blazers too - one still in it's box!

I could probably use some advice on what to do with it all - values, best places to sell them etc...

Best place would be specialist forums, i'm into model railways and forums are the way to go for advice, don't sell to dealers you won't get anywhere near their true value, but it might be worth picking up one of the specialist mags and maybe advertise in there :thumb:

These are the last days of the Petroleum Age chaps ! Enjoy every last mile .

Does this mean there's going to be a Tesla bike coming soon? :D .

I hope not. Horrible things.

I used to not be a fan until I recently had a drive of a Model S P100D, don’t get me wrong I like the sound of a V8 as much as the next petrolhead in a car but if I were rich I’d buy a Tesla in a heartbeat, didn’t want to give it back!.

I think an electric Harley would be an improvement on some of the petrol ones noise wise!.

With an increase of electric vehicles there will be more accidents as they are so quiet they won't be heard, it's bad enough now with the braindead zombies walking around and not paying attention

And society will adjust and start paying more attention to the appropriate senses given the change in presentation of the risk.

I somehow doubt that will actually happen. Consider the track record of people doing daft things with drink-driving, cycling wearing headphones or using mobiles whilst driving. People know it's dangerous but they still do it. It's always because the perceived risk doesn't apply to them at that moment in time. It's why so many cars are now fitted with daytime running lights because people haven't adapted to seeing a ton of metal heading their way so manufacturers have had to installed idiot lights. Electric cars will simply be fitted with some form of audible noise generator - and even then it will be a waste of time because people walking/driving/cycling wearing earphones won't hear them.

Modern cars are much safer and protect people from being aware how fast they are going or how little grip they've got in bad weather conditions - which is why so many new drivers crash as soon as there's the merest hint of ice. People just don't adapt to risk unless it's made very clear to them.

Same thing happened in Australia when the guys working on high tension power lines were issued with new insulated working gear and tools - the number of accidents rocketed.

I find electric cars very unsettling especially when I'm walking down the street and one parked right next to me suddenly pulls away without a sound .

So is liking electric cars a big no no on here then?, don’t get me wrong I’m not singing the praises of a Nissan Leaf but there’s no denying the Teslas and the new Porsche Taycan are pretty impressive and sadly very unaffordable vehicles.

I don't think anyone's against them, my issue is not the vehicles it's joe public, the majority go around in a world of their own and don't have a clue about what is happening in their surroundings, throw in a vehicle that is virtually silent it'll make death race 2000 look like toy story  :thumb:

Just resurrected an RC boat, last run 30 odd years ago. (Yea I’m old but I need something to do no i’m retired, when it’s too inclement for riding the bike.). Converted it from an aero nitro motor to brushless electric with lipo’s.

Regards your late father in laws collection, have a look on line to see if there are any local rc clubs for boats planes etc and contact them to see if there is any interest.

There is also auction houses. Some have specialist model auctions.

You could spread it all out and stick some pictures on here . In my experience a lot of Bikers have an interest in all things Radio Controlled .

I'll probably do that when the family are ready.

We're wary about approaching specialist forums or even his old modelling mates about it - we've had a few that tried to rip is off almost as soon as the lid was shut.
