Insurance time again

I got the renewal through today from Carole Nash, gone up £40 even though nothing has changed apart from me being a year older. 13% increase for what?

Bikes, address, cover are the same,

I really can't be arsed ringing around other companies to then be told by CN they will reduce it so I'm just going to ring first and see what they can do.

Vehicle insurance generally goes up year on year, because

too many idiots are not competent to drive,

too many morons drive as if they really do own the road and everything on it,

too many people claim for stuff they shouldn't (fake injuries, hire cars, stolen property etc etc),

too many insurers use " approved repairers" who ramp up the costs of even simple repairs,

too many insurance providers are just plain greedy

There are plenty more reasons, feel free to add to the list

totally normal.

The onus is on you to challenge it.. and move insurers if necessary.

you have a renewal that was created by a computer with zero human involvement.. now comes the fun part. you get to speak to a real live human being.

if you want.

or you can just pay the new premium.. its these kinds of fun challenges and decision making processes that make life worth living.

of course.. having something to complain about is always a huge positive too.

Don't forget the forum gets commission when you take out a policy so you could well be helping keep the forum going

And don’t forget that you can get up to 25% discount if you say that you are part of this forum, so don’t forget to mention it 👍

Maybe a 13% decrease in the price but not sure why they just increase it and think that people will just pay it....boils my piss

There's a big financial incentive for them doing this. They rely on the lazy insurance buying public to pay the increases because they can't be arsed to question it.

I found it helpful to be armed with a quote from Bemoto beforehand, their Titanium cover offers much the same cover as CN so CN can't just say "yeah well we offer more services than those cheaper people so of course we're more expensive".

I always like when they ask "so how much would you like to pay?" and then try to match it, what exactly is going on behind the scenes there??

Hi Bianco2564, I had insurance for years with CN, until they started to get expensive. Because most of my bikes are loosely classed as Classic's, I went to Peter James insurance, I pay £225 a year Fully comp now on 4 bikes, but got loaded because of the SV1000 on a 54 plate.

Before that the 2 VFR800 98/2000 and CBR400 on 88 plate £97.64, unlimited mileage and full UK and European Breakdown recovery.

Unfortunately not even ball park, they want £450 like for like cover as CN.

Rang Peter James and they are closed at the weekend.

Rang someone called RHspecialist insurance, found them in the VJMC magazine and they are looking promising at £250.

That was with 3000 mile limit on the R1 which is ok as the Silverwing takes the brunt of the commute these days.

Just going to ring CN and try to barter them down.

Why can't they offer you that in the first place, save all the hassle of ringing around:

Because its daft. means you are actively reducing your profit margins.

For example, If you are selling something second hand for £100 (plus Post)... you might get it if the buyer doesn't check, do a search and find he can buy the exact same thing for £90 brand new including post.

its exactly the same idea that lies behind these first computer generated renewal quotes.

A number of people cant be bothered to do any kind of check and simply pay the asking. And that is obviously the best possible result for the seller. (or insurer)
