ZX9R dramas HELLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!

Hello everyone, is there any Ninja owners or even anybody else out there who may be able to help me out with something.....

I've a C1 9R which I've just serviced. I renewed the plugs which were the wrong gap before, done the oil, oil filter and fuel filter which was pretty minging.

Everything went back together fine and ran ok. Here comes the problem runs ok except now when im out on the bike and coming down the gears or shut of the throttle i hear a rumbling sound which sounds nice but am sure its not supposed to be like that. I also seem to be using quite a bit more fuel now. Either that or the price has recently gone through the roof!!! I have a Yoshi RS3 end can which I was told was fitted and dyno jetted at the same time, now I am not sure that maybe the settings have been knocked off and it needs doing again or is it something else....

HELP PLEASE

Ninja Bear has Grantham Ninjas bike now.

Sure someone will be around with some ideas :D

when you say higher fuel consumption do you mean a few miles less ?

haw far on a tank ?

i take it you did the air filter at the same time?

just wondering if the airbox went back together correctly, im told bikes are very sensitive to airflow changes. trapped a fuel pipe somewhere so the flow is uneven?

if it seems the service caused it, id basicly recheck everything you did for the service to make sure there are no silly mistakes. no point doing more till your sure the basics are ok.

no i didnt replace the air filter i took it out and gave it a good clean though.... I have taken the bike apart again and checked everything apart from the plugs as didnt want to do them too tight as i dont have a torque wrench, me thinks ill be going out to buy one pretty soon....

normally a tenners worth of petrol will get me about 120 odd miles thats now up to about 12 quid

just my humble ipinion but if its dynojetted and you've cleaned the air filter i would presume its now breathing alot better therefore using slightly more petrol and the rumbling if its coming from the exhaust is just over run which most bikes with aftermarket cans do anyway. doid you feel a slight power or torque increase when ya got back on it after the service?

did you check the plug gaps before you fitted them? ive had several in the past that were wrong from the box. i dont use a tourqe wrench for anything, i find with plugs wind them in by hand & just nip them with the rachet till they feel 'tight'.

Mel a full tank normally gets me a good 160 odd miles depending on speeds, so no grumbling there

Jim I did notice a power increase so guess thats wot it is. Is it ok to leave it as it is or adjust then fuel - air mixture?? Thinking about it the fuel filter looked pretty dirty when i replaced it.

And plugs are fine Hooli infact the ones i took out werent even the right gap....

nar mate its all good by the sounds of it. just probably down to crappy air flow and its now running as it should be. fuel/air mix is now where it suppose to be just watch for it spluttering when your on the gas if it does that then it might just need carbs balancing.

as an aside - plug gaps should be too big when you remove plugs. as the elctrodes spark erode in use the gaps widen.

If you are sure everything went back as it came out and the same grade of plugs are fitted.Take it out for a good run, then remove each plug and check for colour and condition, it is still one of the best ways to check the motor

A good link here to show you what to look for

If as you said the fuel filter was very dirty that might of leaned off the fuel mixture due to flow restriction. Now that a new filter is in place a full flow is available causing the increase in consumption and overfueling on the overrun which could make the noise you are talking about.

As said the best way is to check the plugs.

Best of luck
