Caution booking accomidation - Booking.com

I had booked accommodation through booking.com as leisure.

In one of 3 emails there was one sentence "We can only accept guests staying for essential travel purposes. We cannot accept accommodation for leisure purposes on any date." All others stated government guidelines, I phoned to check.

I was advised by a polite if very patronising gentleman, that the statement was correct I would be turned away at the door.
The company policy was the hotel was solely for key workers, until a date he specified in May, THIS WAS NOT CLEAR ON THE GROUP OR BOOKING.COM WEBSITE.

Check and double check for the time being.

We arrived for a stay overnight at a property through them in Wales last year. Property was no longer available had been let out as a house for people to live in. Their suggestion was I could up front pay for one of the other properties through them and they would sort it out later. It took them so long to investigate what was happening and to make that suggestion I had already decided to take the kids home. Fuming and rubbish.

I've had similar issues with booking.com. They can be good but I've found I can often get as good a deal by contacting the hotel / owner directly. Sometimes a better deal too, and often get treated better as well.

I’m currently in a Premier Inn in Rugby ..... stop laughing.

I stop in PI at least 1 night a week on business, no one has ever challenged me as to my reason for being there.

Jules comes with me now and again for a change of scenery .... no one asks....

There’s a couple 2 doors down having very noisy sex .... Business ? .. possibly ....

Formula 1 are an ok hotel chain as long as your happy with the prostitutes in and out of the room either side of you ..and those mad 3 bed rooms ,,, thats a single bed bunk over a double  !!

There’s got to be a specialist website for it ... 😃

Did that once. Once too often I realised very early in my stay.

Booking.com were ok when they first came out. They mostly over charge now.
I use them to find a place then go to their website and either book online of call the place. I usually get a better deal booking directly with the B&B, hotel or whatever.

Hi folks. In the autumn I'm looking to go do the Swiss passes on my 750F. When I get there I'll be tent camping. On the way there and back I want to overnight halfway in a B&B. Each time I go online, I get dragged onto Booking or Trivago offering city hotels etc. I'm simply looking for a B&B (or similar) away from city bike thieves. Is there a website you guys know of?

Ride safe, Mike

We have used Booking dot com successfully for the last six years. Most hotels / b&b’s we stay in are in rural locations, and on rare occasions a small town. Perhaps you need to refine your search criteria?

Not knowing your route, I'm assuming you're transiting through France, have a look at Logis Hotels, traditional establishments in towns and villages www.logishotels.com/en/ alternatively plan your route and google accommodation in the town or village you want to stay, simple really.

You could try searching  “Biker friendly accommodation in France” it throws up quite a few B&B’s but you would need to know roughly the area where you intend to overnight, some even have camping facilities.

I would agree with pie man that the Logis hotels are a good option but can be bit on the expensive side, but do have the added advantage that most have a good restaurant on site.

Have a good trip - fantastic scenery over there ⛰👍 and great riding roads, just be very aware of the Swiss speed limits they are very hot on speed enforcement.

Sounds OTT, I am in Croatia and country is pretty much packed with tourists. Yes you must have fresh pcr negative test and that’s it. You have to declare where you will stay and no more questions.

crossing to France was easy, they asked for negative pcr and simple declaration to fill up as I just transited country. From there no borders and checks until Croatia.

Hope that rumours regarding no quarantine for fully vaccinated people returning from amber countries will get into the life.

We have been using Airbnb for a few years now and can wholeheartedly recommend them.

Loads of choice from whole cottages to rooms.

Cheers

Good call Ian. I'd assumed they were air tickets only. The choice of B&Bs is immense. So many to pick from but found a lovely one in the Harz half-way to the Alps. No more Booking.com for us.

Cheers Mike
