Hi eveyone. Im very new to the motorbike world. I have my cbt in a couple weeks , and have bought a honda cb125f brand new from honda. Im looking at my insurance options and they are so varied. I have had quotes from £1000 to £2000 ( for comprehensive) . Is there any insurers that you can recommend for a new rider? I want it to be good insurance but cheap. Also , is having third party insurance a better option?

Many thanks , Aaron

Welcome to the forum, TPFT or TPO will probably work out cheaper but I would go against those since you said you brought your bike brand new from Honda. You will find loads of posts on here from folk who will no doubt have tried most the 'good or bad' insurers. You could also try giving the one that this forum advertises Bikesafe a call to see what quote you get?

Claiming over the first year should be an absolutely last resort as they will absolutely hammer you when it’s time for renewal. Clawing every penny back. You might even have problems finding an insurer as you will be considered a very bad risk.

Mandatory insurance, especially 3rd party only should be cheep, affordable. Than full comprehensive should be just an option for those who are ready to pay more. Insurance generally become legalised rip-off.

By the way my insurance dropped from almost 2000 to 370 in 3 years.

For the first year you just have to suck it up, but at least it's in the knowledge that the next year will see it come down a lot.

If you decide to go third party only, make sure you can afford the loss yourself if the worst were to happen, and make sure that it really is cheaper than fully comp. Sometimes, third party can work out more expensive...
