A2 category changes

Recommended Posts

Proposal 2: Reducing the size of motorcycles that can be used for the A2 category test.

The law sets the MTV requirement for the vehicles that can be used on a practical driving or riding test.

For the A2 category that is currently 395cc, provided also that the power output is at least 20kW, but does not exceed 35kW. This proposal reduces the engine size to 245cc.

This will mean that people can use motorcycles for the A2 test that they feel more comfortable riding.

The decision

After taking all these views into account the government has decided to introduce this proposal. Arrangements will be made to amend the regulations to reduce the MTV for A2 motorcycles to 245cc, with the other power requirements remaining as they are.

This means that you can now take the A2 test on a 245cc bike

Pointless change.

Once bikes start being electric that will be all redundant.

That's a point. Given electric bikes have fairly rapid acceleration I wonder whether they'll split them on basis of KW or just have a one size fits all test. I've never thought of it but what kind of test do you need now for an ev?

Gov website say`s if it can`t be classed as a EAPC (elec assist pedal cycle) then it will be classed as a motorcycle and as such tax, insurance and licence are all applicable.

Like you I wonder about whether the class will need to be refined.

I am terribly out of touch with the modern catorgories and tests having passed my test so long ago (£7.50 lol).

Cheers

I guess one of the benefits of EV is that you can plug it in to a computer and set the power output.

I was thinking about that Spicy110 did a review of a Zero CBT legal bike and I'm sure it could do 80 and the acceleration was insane, obviously it cost 10k so you are not going to find the local chavs out on them but it makes you think if they will have to look a categories once powerful electric bikes cone down in price.

Isn't there something like 15 years before all NEW bikes are electric?

So we have 15 years of it at least before New bike sales are electric and for as long as petrol is about or IC engines are banned :?
