Noobie, need help identifying part.

Unbolt the bolty thing from the back of it and withdraw the springy, clicky thing.

 

Fit the main bit back on the hole & do up the bolts. Reinsert the clicky & springy bits (in the correct order) followed by the bolt. Don't feel compelled to prod the clicky thing in as hard as you can as it'll wear out the spinny, whirry components.

 

You may now enjoy a moment of smugness that you've reinstalled your cam chain tensioner.

Yep i did but someone comes on asking a simple question and the thread ends up being full of needless drivel . So just in case the poster missed the answer to their question  within it i thought i would clarify it .

But if you then  know what it is , and you know what your bike is you can possibly  google replacing cam chain tensioner on xyz bike ? 

 

As some models have explicit instructions on how they are replaced etc so i would not instruct on a model i am not aware of ...

Haven't you ever been a bit curious about what something does and taken it off for a peek?

 

I have. On occasion I even manage to put them back!

I remember the first time I took a drum brake apart for no reason other than to have a look inside.

 

A very panicky while later I'd managed to work out where all the springs and bits went back :lol:

I remember a long time ago a friend wanting to check the gearbox oil on his VW Polo, I think it was. Removed what he thought was a fill/level check bolt. Heard a clunk inside the gearbox. Then had to have the gearbox removed and rebuilt.

Mr Fro's advice was spot on . If you withdraw a cam chain tensioner and then try to refit  it without resetting it and removing the spring , serious engine damage  will almost certainly result .

And to the OP . Please ask which bolt is the oil drain plug before you do an oil change . That way you won't end up asking which order the spring and plunger goes back in on your neutral position detent stop .

Good god no! I'm a mechanical disaster area and leave all such things to those mentally weird people who actually like taking things to bits and then trying to reassemble them. I can respect them for doing it but have as much enthusiasm for it as poking pins in my eyes.

Because it's now fully extended . You have to take the end cap off , take out the spring and rod , lift the ratchet and reset the plunger , replace the gasket , bolt it back on , insert the rod and spring and finally replace the end cap . Failure to follow this procedure will result in serious engine damage .

      Firstly I would like to say I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read this and hopefully help me.  
       
      (Especially as this is fairly long as I’m trying to provide as much detail as possible). 
       
      Basic bike info: HondaCB125F, 2016 Reg, 4K miles. 
       
      What happened: I was riding my motorcycle down a long and very steep hill while staying on the rev limiter (red line) in 5th gear the whole time. 
       
      Its very difficult to say for how long I was on the Rev limiter .. probably 5 seconds +. Maybe 6 or 7. 

      My bikes top speed is usually 65 on a flat road and without the wind in front of me but I think I was doing about 70 as the hill was so steep.
       
      Approximately 10-15 minutes later my motorcycle starts losing power and makes horrible noises. Sounded like noises related to metal parts. Maybe.. Metal parts rubbing each other.
       
      I then pull over after a minute or 2. Switch the engine off for a few seconds. Start the engine again and I’m riding along for a minute or 2 without any strange noises at all. 
       
      Then after 1 or 2 minutes of normal engine noise.. I lose power .. I pull over quickly and the engine has not started ever since. 
       
      The ignition comes on.. then it sounds like what I’m guessing is the starter motor trying to start the engine but no engine noise at all. 
       
      Spark plugs were replaced by AA but this did not fix the problem. 
       
      Please can you help? Thank you.

      Just wondering does anyone know what db dampener fits an Akrapovic ER6-N exhaust. Have a 2011 Kawasaki ER6-N with a full titanium exhaust system.
       
      A bit too loud now that I’ve moved into a more residential area and drive early in the morning to work. 
       
      Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

      hi  can anyone help..looking for a good camera for just recording journeys of about a hour in case a car pulls out and causes crash...was thinking of the drift ghost xl but for every good review i read a bad review...any help ??
