Music on the move

Been out in North Wales today as it was such a nice day. Had the ipod on as I occasionally do when I feel it isn't a distraction but God is it going to get me in trouble! I've got it loaded up with over 1000 classic rock tracks and when you have The Clash I Fought the Law , Ozzie's Crazy Train & Deep Purple's Speed King one after another the reaction of your throttle hand is almost Pavlovian! North Wales is NOT the place to get carried away with myself given the trouble I've had out there in the past.

I know exactly where your coming from

I looked into what offence I'd get done for if pulled and the convo went along the lines of....

Me..'What would the Police do me for if I got pulled over for listerning to an Ipod on Bike?'

Police friend..'How would they know you was playing Ipod?'

Me....'when I took my helmet off after seeing my feet tapping the pegs, my head banging and probably the speed I was riding at'

Police friend...'Well you'd be a pratt for speeding in first place and before you say it, I know I used to have a bike too'

Me...'So whats best and worst case scenario if I took my helmet off and the head phones fell out off my ears with Final countdown playing loud?'

Police friend...'Best case a lecture, worse case could summons you to court if they was being anal for driving without undue care and attention, depends on how bad your dancing is and wether they liked Europe! Personally If I tugged you and you was listerning to that music I'd lock you up ! '

I stopped using my Ipod for about a week

This subject has been talked about on many forums and the general concensus is there are no rules laid down for head sets, after all the police and instructors use them all the time, theres also satnav on bikes whats a bigger distraction listening to Led Zep or looking at a plastic screen all the time because your lost on a rideout

I think its more how you're riding at the time and the offence you commit caused by listening to music is what you get done for rather than the music itself. Well unless its shite music...........you'd deserve to get done for cruelty to your ears

 Ask me in a couple of weeks and I'm sure I'll have a proper answer for you

I can't in all honesty say that the ipod doesn't affect my riding as I do tend to ride a little bit faster with it on. But I do find it an aid to concentration, particularly on long boring rides on the motorway. I am choosey about when I use it , for instance I won't wear it if I'm riding around town or in heavy traffic. And I definately won't have it on a strap on my arm as friend of mine does. If I want to turn it on & off I'll do so safely pulled over and not on the move. I guess it comes down to the individual , what one finds a distraction someone else won't.

Its not some thing I have ever done and as David said it isnt some thing I would want to do in heavy or slow moving traffic.

I dont think I would feel as safe on the bike if I couldn't hear what was going on around me.

I have to say that the one thing I miss about my previously owned Beemer was the radio/cd.

Riding on wonderful roads in glorious weather, accompanied by your favourite sounds is something every rider should experience at least once.
