Guest
OkA couple of weeks ago I adjusted my chain to get some of the slack out... Bike was running fine!!slowly im starting to notice a scraping knocking sound that I can only hear and feel when Im riding the clutch, so it must be the chain or something???Please advise!!luke
yorbandit
Was ya chain oiled up ok no rust on any links ??poss ya got a link stuck and as ya tightened up now ya can hear it not working on the cogs prob
Guest
Hmmmmm..... Okay.Take your bike off the side stand so its up right. And feel the tension on the chain at the bottom but in the middle of it. Then walk your bike forward so the other half of your chain is at the bottom then feel the tension. If one side of the chain is tension more then the other then you need a new chain and can be dangerous. Ive had this problem with a few chains and its a pain in the arse. Also have you checked that none off the cogs are broke on the front & back sprocket??Matty
Guest
Hi matt, Ill have a feel tomorrow, How do I get access to front and rearr sprokets to check them??
Bill_on_a_bike
Rear sproket is usually exposed but if it's not, it'll be behind a very obvious looking chain guard, which should just unscrew off (i don't mean any of this in a patronising way btw, just realised it sounds it a little)Front sproket is often behind a more substantial looking metal cover, which again just unscrews or bolts off. Guest
Hi matt, Ill have a feel tomorrow, How do I get access to front and rearr sprokets to check them?? Looking at your bike the chain and sprockets will be on the left. Your rear sprocket will be where the swing arm ends. And the front sprocket is normally behind a cover just infront of the gear lever, not sure with your bike though as your footpegs are further forward so just follow the chain.. Isn't hard fella Matty.

Guest
lol that's fine fella don't worry about it. Chains will slacken and especially when trying to wheelie. Just tighten your chain back up. Have you checked your chain for what I said??Tbh it can be loads of things but without a better explanation the list can just keep going on and on. Do you have any idea where the noise is coming from? Explain more please mate'y.Matty
Guest
I only knew my chain was too loose on deceleration, as soon as i shut the throttle off you could hear it slap on the metal.Just keep an eye on it mate, as yorbandit said, you might have a link sticking, give her a good oil, and tighten the chain back up
Guest
Ok, when Im riding along its fine, but when slowing down (I take the clutch all the way) so because the noise of the engine isnt audible anymore I can feel and hear a scrapping banging noise every revolution of the chain on my right foot near the gear lever. You guys mean take my back wheel back to tighten the chain yes?Ill check the sprokets etc now matey and report back asap...PS what oil do I need the chain looks rather black with some rust! Guest
Luke-- don't let 'mates' try and wheelie your bike--they won't pay for new stuff.I am betting you don't have a torque wrench--this will get the right tension on nut--a chain in normal use [and your bike is a cruiser] will need some adjustment every 500 miles--yours maybe 600--allow 3/4 inch vertical movement after tightening-- check wheel alignment as an off line wheel will stress the chain and sprocks.Lubricate it with a variety of oils as old engine oil [on with a brush], chain wax, and chain lube-- always after a ride when chain has heat in it--this allows oils to penetrate into the links as they are 'open'-- put on centre stand and put oil on inside of chain. Not necessary after every ride--maybe each 200 miles depending on type of riding.if it is out of line and not lubricated this may explain noise but need to see itI am almost tempted to pop up and bloody show you---almost
Guest
Thankyou JustaRiderI am familier with a torque wrench (used to work as a trainee marine engeneer for a year ) But I cant aford these expensive tools... yet!I took your advice and bought some chain greese, greased it up after riding like u said, But its filthy black (most chains are?) so whats the best way to clean it? Guest
you don't clean it--as such Luke-- only when been near lots of grit/sand as the 'rock' can damage the chain ringsparaffin is good soaked on a cloth or some degreaser fluidyou will find the gunk accumulates under chain guard and round front sprock--so clean thisuse a small brush to get out from sprock so no need to pull covers off
