johnakay
jacket. wife and me both have this jacket. not been tested in the rain as yet. so we don't know how water proof these jackets. can any one on here vouch it is water proof as manufactures states? I ask recently about over jacket but I question myself do I really need one if these are water proof?

I'd imagine you can make it showerproof by applying something. Waitrose do a waterproof clothing wash which is quite cheap then maybe use a scotchgard spray or something after.
Gerontious
Wash it twice. first in just water... 40c. and before you begin, take out the detergent tray and wash it so its completely clean of any detergent residue. a wash with just plain water is like an extended rinse and will remove any detergent residue on the garment and within the machine. this is crucial. Then wash it with Nikwax and follow the instructions to the letter. after this reproof it with an appropriate spray. The whole point of all this is to remove all traces of detergent as this stops any tendency for water to bead off the fabric. the spray will just increase this beading effect. Ordinary detergent turns fabric into a sponge. when water falls onto it it soaks in. rather than bead. which is the opposite of what you want. . Pie man
I really hope your experience will be better than mine and your Gear will be waterproof. I will never buy any Oxford Clothing again - Owned the Oxford Mondial Advanced Textiles & Rainseal over Suit- shite at keeping water out - returned both Jacket and jeans twice. Now use as a summer suit. Ok for keeping you mostly dry through light rain showers. This is only my opinion, others may have more positive results.
