Adam Wood Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Hey guys, Fairly new to riding here and it’s got to the point where my bike is flashing the ‘CHANGE OIL’ warning. I ride a Yamaha YZF-R125 (2016) and am a bit stumped on which oil I should be using. The manual lists many types (specifically oil such as ‘SAE 10w-30, 10W-40 etc) but when I search for them they are listed as ‘four stroke oil’ which doesn’t look right to me. any advice on which oil should be used is much appreciated. Thanks!! Quote
Tiggie Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Four stroke oil is correct. Your bike has a four stroke engine Quote
Nick the wanderer Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Hi, don't forget the oil filter, best to do them together, your engine will appreciate you for it. A 30 second search on ebay reveals... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125422432121?fits=UKM_Make%3AYamaha&hash=item1d33c26f79:g:dsEAAOSw84ZiN5bw&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8E8LB5Bm5KgeU0fDaIA2MyELiNqsMFwO1T Quote

Mickly Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 What ever you do, use oil specifically designed for motorcycles, don’t use car oil. Quote

Nick the wanderer Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Hi, if you want to do your own maintenance Haynes manuals are an old school book that shows you how to do most things, they are model specific and are good for having a browse. That and YouTube. I haven't watched this all the way through but you get the idea. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Just be careful what you watch and who you trust to follow instructions of, not all agree with methods of individuals. Quote
husoi Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 I always use Castrol Power 1 on both babies with service every 2 years. Works fine and when remove the oil is still in good condition. Quote
