Rightly, or wrongly, I managed to downsize my HJC i90.

I was "persuaded" to buy the XXL as the guy in the shop thought the XL was way too tight.

Of course, it only took a few trips out to find the darned thing slipping down my forehead, and I couldn't close the front whilst on the move because it slipped so far.

I bought THIS STUFF and pulled the liner out, then just followed to contours and stuck strips of it to the polystyrene inside, then replaced the liner, and It now fits a treat (for now anyway).

That would do for a job I need to do on my boat.

Depending on the helmet manufacturer/supplier you could of got a smaller size skull cap and cheek pad interior to fill it out.

some adhesives can attack the eps interior of the helmet shell.

That's what I thought about doing, but it was half the cost of the helmet to replace the inner gubbins.

Didn't think about the adhesive, I'll keep an eye on it, cheers.

Perhaps I'm just a nob, but why not go back and speak to the person in the shop and ask for a free exchange, on the basis that he mis-sold it? Perhaps a bit late now though if it's been mummified in sticky tape 🤣

They made it quite clear, once it was de-stickered and used on the bike, I couldn't change it.

Yes your in a sticky situation really, I'd adhere on the side of caution and be wary about any glues when it comes to helmets.

Badum tisss.... I'm here all week

Your other alternative would be to go for an 80's style perm.

You'd just need the moustache to go with it though.

What a suggestion.

Do exactly this...... Then film a Rocky montage before you confront your nemesis at the bike shop.

On a serious note. I'd definitely be looking to duplicate your method but with the padding attached to the liner so no glues came in contact with any of the "keep your brain in your skull" parts of the outer shell.

Over my years I've seen some strange interactions with various materials, not actually helmet related but I'll personally not be risking anything of the sort.

I'd be emailing customer support over it explaining the situation. As it stands you've been sold a product unfit for porpouse in an incredibly dangerous way. The one item designed to prolong life doesn't do so correctly after a few uses.

The helmet is 9 months now, it's been sat there unused whilst I've used my Shark instead.

I'm resigned to it just being a lesson learned.

I'm not inclined to go chasing the issue, the service received from the same store since has been great.

I've stuck it to the polystyrene, not directly to the shell, I'll keep an eye on the polystyrene not melting.

Ahh fair doos, in which case you can consider the perm and montage an optional side quest!

Just had an hour round trip to the vet, and yup, it really hurt my head 😂😂 lots of pressure on my forehead, wondering whether to remove the forehead strips, or what I put around the back.

Trial and error me thinks.

Riding in strong wind confirmed it's so much quieter than the other helmet.

You must’ve got a lot of brains in that XXL head

Are you familiar with the term "air-head" 😁 There's a lot of air contained within.

I understand this problem. When I came back to biking I bought a helmet that was too large. I didn’t realise at the time. But now I know and it’s five years on. And my current helmet is a snug fit. … I’ve been thinking about this though. Have you tried wearing a balaclava of some description underneath the helmet?  I think that would be a better solution.  Just an idea

At least it wasn’t an too expensive helmet!

Yes, for sure. I have a good idea of what a proper fit is (now it's too late) so I'll be helmet shopping after the holiday.

I’m unsure still, as my shoei is M and I rode for 15+ hours with it on the same day and didn’t hurt really. But sometimes there’s days where I get a bit of a headache…

It's a good idea, but I thought I'd await the cooler weather.
