raff Posted Thursday at 23:07 Posted Thursday at 23:07 Hi there, I'm a laid back and easy going chap looking to explore with my scrambler the outer hebridies this spring/summer 2025 for a 4/5 days trip camping and/or using different accommodations according to weather and availability. Anyone interested to join me? Drop me a line if up for it, we can meet up for a coffee and take it from there! 1 Quote
Fender1515 Posted Friday at 10:21 Posted Friday at 10:21 Hi Raff, I spent 18 months working in the Outer Hebs on the radar installations, Uists, St Kilda, many magical islands, walked over Harris, Lewis, Rum, and a few more. My only note of caution, the midges, they are seriously bad through the summer months, great place to explore, be prepared for the little winged devils. Feel free to PM me if you want to check anything out, happy to help. 1 Quote
manxie49 Posted Friday at 10:49 Posted Friday at 10:49 Take good note of what @Fender1515 says about the midges ........ Get it wrong and they really are a feckin nightmare! Do your research, apart from that it's a great place to visit 3 Quote

Yes I am taking the wee devils into account...20 years in Scotland gave me a good understanding of how to deal with the wee fu@#ers! ...at least I will be spending as much time as possible on the bike so that will...help! raff Posted Friday at 21:07 Author Posted Friday at 21:07 How long do you think it will take me? It seems in 2/3 days could cover quite a lot! Quote
raff Posted Friday at 21:15 Author Posted Friday at 21:15 That is going to be my midges protection day and night! 2 Quote
Fender1515 Posted Saturday at 10:26 Posted Saturday at 10:26 Like your thinking, but not much crutch room, looks like Female suit, but I am not judgemental, what ever works for you! So ~I guess you may be thinking of Ferry from Oban to South Uist, around 6 hrs from memory, the whole of Uist top to tail is less than 40 miles, again from memory I think most roads are 30, 50 mph, ang single carriageway, me, I would want to track off to the beaches and fishing ports, so a couple of days. Local Ferry over to Harris/Lewis, less than 30 miles T2T, but great place to meander + 1.5 to 2 days days including ferry time. I am not sure if your up for a stomp over Rum, I would, amazing castle, manor house built by a industrialist from Manchester, he was barking mad, had a boat, that he held parties on, some guests pissed him off and he scuppered the boat , I could spend at least two days around Sky, again, I would be walking the Cuillin's, Red range Blacks where a tad challenging, exploring the Lock's another couple of days. Depending on your itinerary, 5,8 days. Would be great trip, PS work out fuel stops, not many Moto service station on route. PPS they do like their wee drams 1 Quote
raff Posted Saturday at 12:48 Author Posted Saturday at 12:48 Of course! That suit would be quite...restrictive! Just got an image out of Google!!! That's great itinerary pointers thank you! I have been to sky so I think I'll plan a 5 days gig just for HE (albeit I recognise being so close, some Sky time could be tempting!!!) Oh well, the only risk is that my wife will report me as a disappeared person!!! Thanks for your advice! R 1 Quote
Mickly Posted Saturday at 18:12 Posted Saturday at 18:12 You will be a disappeared person if your wife stumbles upon the browsing history that found that picture 1 3 Quote
Throttled Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago The ferry from Uig to Harris only has four tie down points for motorbikes, so if want to use that route, book now. The summer timetable is out. I do not know how many bikes the Ullapool to Stornoway ferry takes. Quote
