Guest
i have a cpi sx 2008 edition 50cc dirt bike. It works pretty good its got no upgrades at the moment and is restricted i can get it about 40 mph on a straight. The problem is that when im going along i will shift up gear( it does it now and then when im not even trying to change gear) and the bike will scream as if i was over reving it loads so i try to shift up but it wont let me so i have to shift down and then its fine again. i can't possibly think what the problem is because surely it would want me to shift up to a higher gear if it sounds like im over reving. It isnt because my chain is too loose either... can anyone please help me

rennie
sounds like you're hitting a false neutral to me, can you adjust the gear selector? clutch? try changing up all the way through the box without revving it right to the limit, is that better? more info needed
Guest
okay well its changed a bit recently but it seems when i try to shift up it dosent go up it just sounds loud like im over revving so i shift down back into the gear i was then shift up again and its fine. it almost seems like i try to shift up and it shifts down, it then wont let me shift up so i shift down then im back where i started without the screaming
PMC
I'm with rennie, sounds like hitting a false neutral to me. It happened to me a lot on a 125cc I hired.Next time it happens, check whether the neutral light has come on... if it has you maybe need to be a bit more robust with your left foot
Guest
there should be no way to hit neutral directly from 4th gear though so how can that be possible? and howcome i need to go down to get it back to normal again shouldn't it want me to go up?i will get back to you when i test the neutral light thing
slugworth1987
basicly its when you are stuck beyween 2 gears when i change gear i click up wait for a jerk on the lever return to normal then try and force the lever up a little if it does i've missed or not gone in gear propperly if not im in gear this works better with clutchles change not when you use your clutch lol
Guest
well i've checked and no, the neutral light does NOT come on when it happens so it isnt that and slugworth on my motorbike i can't change gear without the clutch. The thing is that when this happens to me i cant possibly click it up so i have to go back down which is very annoying because often when i click it down and go back up to the gear i was in, it happens straight after when i go up again so it can get very annoying
rennie
will the gear selector move on the shaft?you normally undo an allen bolt in the clamp, slide selector off splines, turn it slightly (down) only 1 or 2 splines slide back on, do clamp up and try that.failing that adjust clutchfailing that take it to mechanic
