XmisterIS Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I have a 100% polyester jacket with detachable liner. Neither the jacker or the liner seem to have a washing instruction tag ... would it be safe to put the outer jacket in the washing machine on a gentle wash? Quote
techno Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Is it supposed to be water proof?would it wash the water proofing off?I never wash my jackets, may have tto just gently remove all the bird crap and dead bugs off my leathers tho with a wet paper towel! Quote
bigsisterbiker Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 if it is waterproof and you wash it and it takes off the coating you can get re-proofers for them anyway. i know blacks and millets do them. you just chuck em back in the machine with the re-proofer. maybe try a silk or woollen detergent and setting on your washer, nice and gentlecould ask at a dry cleaners too Quote
Guest Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 if its a textile gear look at nikwax tech washavailable from millets etc and bike shops nikwax range of products for motorbike gear and then reproof with tx direct but remember to remove all protection parts (elbow back and shoulder prior to washing) Quote
Guest Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Be careful! The last time I washed my textile topcoat the suds spilled into the workings of the washing machine and blew the circuits. If you use NikWax type stuff use less than you think you might need, or simply wash without any detergent. After washing get some spray on waterproofer from a camping/outdoor shop and give a couple of coats, making sure to cover the seams properly. On a trip to the Lakes I was completelydry except for two spots where there was a fancy tag sewn into the sleeves. XmisterIS Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 thanks for the advice! My jacket was well cheap and so I can't get the armour out ... ! (its the cheapest textile one that Ixon do) Perhaps I should just handwash it in the bath ... Quote
Guest Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Good as any - it's what I had to do after my washing machine blew up! Quote

Guest Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 you could put the jacket on and sponge it down, that way the inside stays dry, and you can wash the whole jacket, then remove and air dry.. might want to get someone to do the back, but i find the flys/bugs can't catch me, and tend to get picked off as i chase them... lol Quote

No lol, was just half way through my cbt and stopped for a brake. Couldn't be bothered to take my jacket off because it was cold. Quote
