XT125X top end problems?

First of all let me say hi guys. I bought my first motorbike about 1 month ago (Yam XT125X 4 Stroke) and i have decided to sign up to see if you guys can give me any advise on what is wrong with my bike?.

Basiclly I am worrying why my bike won't hit 60mph with ease. My bike will fly through the gears untill i hit 4th gear. I then hit 4th gear at about 40mph and then the bike will steadly creep to 52mph (MAX). At about 49MPH i will then flick up to 5th gear where it will reach 52 max. I may have a slight head wind but not alot. I have had a 50cc moped (de-restricted) before which can easily get to 60mph so iam not quite sure why my bigger bike dosen't want to get there. Any tips or advise i would apprechate ALOT thanks.

the bike is a off road type so i doubt it will have a high speed 5th more of an overdrive gear to knock the rpm down a wee bit.

my CBR125R's 6th gear just takes off 2000rpm as a cruse gear

2nd page

states that the bikes rated top end is 60mph and has 12.5bhp@8000rpm should also be serviced every 6000miles

Shall post in the newbie section after this :)

Yes it is brand new and its an 08 bike. I am finding my girl friends moped quicker at top end then my bike at top end! I am wondering if it needs any more running in? there is defo somthing not right. I have even found some times i will be flat out at 49mph and it even drop to 48-47. I know this type of bike can reach 70mph. So why can't mine!!

new bike ... did you buy it new ?

if so take it back to the dealer under warranty and get them to check it out ...

and ps if it needed more running in

ragging it will not help the problem ;)

I think you're expecting a bit much from this thing. the reason the 50's are quicker is that they are two stroke. Most 125 4 strokes won't hit 60 with ease, especially not one designed for off roading. Just about 50 with a tail wind sounds about right.

As mentioned above, 5th is often an overdrive gear, with little or no acceleration, try leaving it in 4th longer for a tad more acceleration to a higher speed. This is certainly the case on my SR.

as the link sugests the top end down hill with a tail wind will make 62 mph lol my CBR hates 5th and 6th this time of year for some reason it sits at 62mph all day but i click to 5th the bike slows down and in 6th just slows down and is just useless unless i tuck down behind the screen if i was you i'd stop ragging it and just enjoy the fact your on a bike and not stuck in a car in traffic ;-)

wait until your free of the L plates and get your self a nice 250 or 400cc and sit at 60 in 3rd lol
