First off Hi, new to this forum is me :D

Im a reall newbie at ridin passed CBT last year and due to weather (and fallin off lol) and no experience thought id better not use the bike til now... i got a 1982 Honda CM125c and went to go back on it the other day and the speedo had the glass smashed and one of the lights. The speedo isnt the original from the bike but was fitted by the previous owner due to the rev counter, which they never connected, so why?! i dont know.

Anyway my question to you is.. can i get any old speedo or will i need a specific one that will work with the gearin or something?.. as i said a real newbie. I wanted one tht suited the bikes looks better originaly, so this is the perfect time (although not timed very well) to get a new one.

Thanks for any info :)

is your speedo driven by a cable and drive by the wheel?

if so then look on the web for a universal speedo, (found for customs etc) or a speedo of a similar bike to yours, afterall a busa speedo showing in excess of 150mph will be useless on a 125.. and visa versa..

i changed the speedo on my gs650gx as it had a yamaha one fitted (bike was a Suzuki) for one of a GS650 GL..

however something to note, you cannot confirm the exact mileage and this must be stated if you ever sell the bike.. unless you know the old mileage reading and the mileage reading on the replacement to start from..

or if it is new

therefore 17500 miles speedo replaced with new so old = 17500, new = 2500, therefore mileage = 20000. but have documentation to back it up or pics, dated.

Thanks for the info will ave a check and keep you all updated if i have anymore queries..

trouble with my bike is that the pervious owner changed speedo to a second hand speedo soo mileage is not known. i think the previous speedo had something like 52k or somethng he said but the new one :/ lol.

WalneyFrankie :)

Your suspisions are correct - cable from speedo to front wheel. Now my next question would be.. do i have to find a speedo to fit a certain bracket or something.. im not too sure how my one is fixed to the bike as its dark outside :P and wnt to be sure.

Thanks

can you take a photo opf the clocks.. this will give me a better insight..

but generally the speedo and tacho / rev counter (if fitted) on small cc bikes are both cable driven..

the awkward part is the electrics for idiot lights and illumination of the clock faces.

you would be best trying to get a honda unit of the same age/year if not a CM125 one from a breakers..

the universal clocks can fit by one bolt mounting, and clamp to the bars or a bolt on the yolk (the bit the bars attach to..)

try ebay.. find someone with CM125 bits and see if they have the parts you need..

you can always make a bracket out of ally, to bolt up to the old mountings and take the new unit..

in my experience it easier to fit something from the same manufacturer.. so honda item, plus the one shown for an AR has a temp gauge, and other idiot lights that you dont, so these would be redundant unless you spent time working them out. also the AR is liquid cooled hence the temp gauge, and the CM is aircooled, so no need or take off for a temp sender try looking for cb250 bit or cg125.. you might get a better result

Josh, i think those would do the job.. they are the same manufacturer and same era.. also have the same kind of layout as your current clocks, have fun .. looks like you might get a spare ignition too..
