Guest
hi guys.my problem is when i touch my back break pedal the break works fine but no light comes on. i used some wd40 and the break light came on and thats great but now it doesnt go out. i can see the problem being the spring as i need to pull it back up for the break light to go off. i have also adjusted the spring with tightening it and undoing it but that doesnt need to help. any idea how i can fix this and make it go back to the start position when i take my foot on the pedalhope that makes sensethanks
Guest
sorry to "interupt" your question.. but didnt know that back brake supposed to lit the rearlight.. I mean, my cbr125, whenever i apply back brake, the red light dont come on. only front brakes lit the rearlight.again, from above question, how can I fit it? Guest
the back break should always make the back light come onif for example your sitting at traffic lights with your back break on it should show your break light tohow to fix it i have no idea but both breaks should make the light come on unless there are exceptions i dont know about

Stu
the brake light switch is a simple design where the spring pulls a plunger down to turn the light on the down side is they where very easily and get covered in road crap you may find you might have to strip is to clean it up to get it working properly or adjust it properly to adjust it you have to remove it from its mount and there is an adjuster nut for you to twiddle with till you get it right
Guest
cheersthere is a nut that i can use a spanner to turn but going into that there is a adjuster nut that i can turn with my hand and that seems to stretch the spring and unstretch it. will the nut do a different job to that?you can also see when i push the pedal down and let it go there is not much movement in the spring so i know that is the problem
Stu
the switch is made out of plastic and the nut is also plastic it is attached to the switch the spring shouldnt really extend if it does then there isnt enough free play in the switch and is probably adjusted too much already personally i would remove the spring then the switch and operate it by hand to see if it works properly it should pull down easily the return on its own as there is a return spring inside the switch PS im hoping the switch is the same design i have seen on most bikes pics of the swith would help
Guest
i took the spring out and gave it a clean and pulled the pin which the connects to it and gave that a clean tooits seems to work now although there are two spings for the back pedal. one for the break light and one to hold the pedal in place - im going to replace both for max results thanks again
Guest
if the switch is over adjusted, then the light will remain illuminated at all times, if under adjusted, it will not light unless a great deal of pressure is exerted to extend the pin past the point of contact thereby completing the circuit..99% of bikes have both front and rear switches, the other 1% were built before 198? and do not require the front one for the MOT, i had a 1981 Katana which had one retrofitted due to the tester thinking it was registered in 199? but was a Isle of Man import..http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc141/cooper_man2/1049_PARTS_LEFT/1049-047.jpg
