HELP PLEASE! THREAD BROKEN?

Hi all,

I have taken off my rear rack to install some side pannier bars. The rack came off fine (and I undid the bolts very gently too) but now I find that I cannot screw the rack back on?? On one side it is fine - on the other the screw only turn 3 turns then stops - the same happens with other similar screws - these are the screws that were in there before?

Help please! I can't think what to do...

are you sure you got the bolts in the correct order of placement ..... i would suggest taking opposite side bolts out ( the ones that went in ok ) to see if they are shorter etc than the others and see if there is something physically stopping the bolts going in ( frame etc ( or even the new pannier racks ) or if the bolts are actually tightening up tight due to being too short for that location ( due to added thickness of pannier racks if they mount in that position)

sounds like you've crossed the threads.

take the bars off and try putting the bolt in straight. if that doesn't work and you have access to the rear of the hole, put the bolt in from the rear to fix the threads then try again.

:stupid: also make sure both items are lined up and the bolt is straight before tightening up, helps if you start by hand stops most chances of cross treading..
