ZXR400 wont rev above 10k

i only rode it on one session, we had the air box off and checked cables etc, was firing on all cylinders


tomorrow thing we gonna take a look at the plugs and carbs to see....

Phil, has it been stood for a long time, if so it may just be the petrol buddy (unleaded can go off if left for more than a few months - not always though). Try a fresh tank of juice.


If not get some wynnes carb cleaner down the carbs to see if that clears her out.

i think the bike has been stood for a while not sure, but we would of gone through a full tank of fuel at cadwell on it so it should have all fresh in now...


tim thats the exact problem we are having, will check that out today when i go to my dads...

Update...


:idea: May be electrical. The battery voltage was dropping below 12V when the engine was revved hard (running total loss system). Seemed to work just fine when hooked up to another bike running.

It's getting a new alternator fitted and we'll see what happens...

Previously run as a race bike so very unlikely to be restricted!!!! Carbs working just fine.

and no mention of your two brothers who will more than likely fitting the new alternator for you while dad thinks hes helping :lol:


and you just turn up and ride it :roll: i think you should store the bikes at yours :lol:

If they isn't any obvious obstruction to either the intake or exhaust systems, then first point of call should surely be the ignition system?. I had a car that wouldn't rev, turned out it was suffering from HT breakdown under load.
