Guest
Hey guys, I'm not usually too bothered about a little oil - but I'm driving (riding) down to wales to my mums place tomorrow If it was serious my bike wouldn't be going would it? Its running FINE but has a little oil leak on the head gasket
tony-1977
Personally I would change the head gasket. If it's seeping though outside, will it be leeking inside too?
rosszx9r
Hey guys, I'm not usually too bothered about a little oil - but I'm driving (riding) down to wales to my mums place tomorrow If it was serious my bike wouldn't be going would it? Its running FINE but has a little oil leak on the head gasket i wouldn't get too worried about it. if it's an oily stain then clean it off for now and see if it gets worse.you should have around 5 litres of oil in your engine so unless you're loosing it by the cupful every day, it'll be fine until you have time to take a closer look you'll need to look close to see if it's the head gasket or the rocker cover gasket. it's most likely the later and in this case is easily fixed and cheap to do (~£5 for new gasket)if you can send a photo of the leak, it would help... chrisgatguis
Is it common to leak from the rocker cover Ross? Mine spits from there, doesn't amount to much but is a bit messy on the down pipes.is it just a case of taking the cover off and replacing the gasket? like you don't have to empty all the oil out do you? Bill_on_a_bike
Oil shouldn't spit from your rocker covers no, oil should never leak.Yeah you can take the rocker covers off without emptying it of oil, let the engine sit for a bit first if it's been running.Gasket on mine are a rubber seal set in to the rim of the rocker cover, but it's not round it's ovular. Dno how hard these are to source.
