hi i have an old trails 2-stroke 250cc fantic, it occasionally decides to rev really high even with the throttle turned all the way to the bottom, the only way to stop it is to choke the engine

whats wrong with my bike???

thanks

Hi Mate... Drop into Newbies and say hello!!

Not sure about the bike unfortunately... Not a technical type. Only thing I can think of is a stuck throttle cable?

i had to change my throttle cable a while ago, and we didnt get it just right and it would indeed just rev like mad! little adjusting and it sorted it out.

Dnno if its the same problem here tho, wait for the tech guys to arrive :P

are you doing anything at the time, i ask this as if the cable is badly routed then turning the bars can pull/tighten the throttle and cause it to climb the rev range..

I had that problem on one of my bikes and it can be a number of things.

a) You could have adjusted your revs when the bike was warm which could knock off your settings and the bike's brain tries to compensate by increasing the revs.

b) Your cable could get stuck somewhere when the revs are high and remains stuck

c) Check the carb and the air/fuel mixture as you could have an imbalanced mixture

Does the revs slow down when you turn the handle bars? If so it is the cable. Other than that clean the carbs, air filter and run some redex red.
