Pete Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I live in Redditch and like most people I don't just use my bike for getting from one place to another. Sometimes I like going in a big circle and ending up just where I started.I've been to Ironbridge a couple of times but that's a bit too far for me when I don't really want to be out much longer than an hour or so. Some of my usual non-stop mini adventures include going to Stratford-upon-Avon via Henley-in-Arden (along the A4189, right at Henley-in-Arden and down the A3400). I also go to Malvern, via Worcester. They're both nice, but sometimes I don't know where else there is to go. I'm not getting bored with my usual haunts, it'd just be nice to have somewhere else to add to the list. What are everyone else's usual routes/destinations? Quote
ses310 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 You should head towards Craven arms. Go through Kiddy and head towards Bridgenorth, you can always stop at the cafe at Quatt. Turn left at the island up the bi-pass, straight on then there is a road off to the left sign posted to Craven Arms, great road. You can always come back through Ludlow then over the Clee Hills. queen bodecia Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I'm in a different bit of the midlands to you. I tend to avoid the main Derbyshire routes now. They're often jam-packed with death-wish nutters at the weekend and I'd rather not watch...Leicestershire and Rutland are still relatively untainted and contain my routes of choice... Quote
PhatDad Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I've not been riding for long but the other week I enjoyed Nottingham, Newark, Grantham, Melton Mowbray, Ruddington and back to Nottingham. It's pretty much all A roads but I'm going to be looking for some nearer B roads somewhere. Quote
queen bodecia Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Phat, some great roads around Melton... Quote
Colin the Bear Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Ride round the midlands? Good advice. Head north Quote
Pete Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 (edited) Strangely I've tried the North AND around Lincoln. I went to uni in Preston and there are some really nice roads just a few miles out of town (being on the edge of the Lake District and all). There are some nice bits on the A46, around Collingham and Besthorpe. As for my area of the Midlands I'll just have to keep on looking! Edited June 30, 2009 by Pete Quote

Pete Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Nice one folks, some good ideas there. I went out today for a spin up to Birmingham centre (nice roads on the way there and back) because I wanted to get some variation in, practice some around town riding. I'm off up to the Lake District (which strangely only has one lake in it...) this weekend so that should be good fun. Now I certainly have some new places to visit, cheers! Quote
