Hi - need a bit of help please guys. Trying to get a ZZR1100 D5 back on the road. The bike runs but will not tick over properly. When we tried to balance the carbs - no4 did not show a vacum. Then after much routing about it mysteriously appeared on the vacum guage and we could balance them. The prob is with the bike & seems to be intermittent. Also as soon as you take the choke off the engine stalls straight away. The only exception is when it is fully warmed up - then it ticks over ok. It also seems to run hot and makes a sucking type noise. Suspect the carbs but where in the carbs should I look? Have had them off and can see nothing obvious, but not an expert so any help/pointers to where to investigate very wlecome.

thx

check the rubber chimneys that attach the carbs to the engine, you could have a leak.. therefore sucking in fresh air, rather than carb fuel mix.

Thanks - I have taken the carbs off and had a look at the rubbers on the engine side as you suggested. They all look intact. I can't see any cracks or splits and the allen bolts are tight. Any help welcome as proving difficult to get to the bottom of. One other point is that when I have the engine running and rev it - the engine goes up the rev band but then takes along time to drop back down again. It stays at say 3k revs before dropping back after about 5 seconds. This is the same whether the choke is on or not. Carbs look clean inside but something is a drift?

ok, how about the connections with the airbox?

remove the airbox coverand filter, and see if the problem is still there, if not, then its related to the filter/cover.

it sounds most likely a vacuum leak or could need balancing.. see "Guides,Manuals, & General Info"

PM TimR, he's a ZZR600 man, and may have further insight..
