JoshTimmins Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 White smoke comes out of the left exhaust when in idle, but after a while of riding it clears.any ideas? Im gonna run a carb cleaner through it when i get some money, think this would fix it?Joshx Quote
Pete Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 It's worth a shot before you start taking bits off. White smoke is usually one of the following (from Haynes manual):- Piston oil ring worn, broken or damaged- Cylinders worn, cracked or scored- Valve oil seal damaged or worn- Valve guide worn- ENGINE OIL LEVEL TOO HIGH (I reckon it's most likely this)- Head gasket broken between oil return and cylinder- Abnormal crankcase pressurisationThey're all pretty much to do with burning oil, which is why I reckon it'd be the engine oil too high. Saying that if it's only from one exhaust it might not be. Have you checked the exhaust gaskets to make sure the corresponding one(s) for the culprit exhaust aren't worn or damaged? It's probably something simple and easy/cheap to fix like that...(famous last words ) Quote
Guest Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Or you sure its not just a build up of water mate when idle which causes steam ...does your exhaust have a bleed hole in the back box like the nc30 ? if so check it aint blocked Quote
Guest akey Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 generally white smoke is steam from water and not to much to worry about, blue smoke is oil.If it clears after a couple of mins on tickover its fine mate. Quote
