Dumb questions.

Ok so its like my 3rd day of using a manual now and I need a little guidance please.

Actually I am having a little trouble with the bike.

It just me I'm sure, but lets say I'm in 4th and I pull the clutch in and stop the bike.

Then I press down 3 times to end up in first right?

Well It is very hit and miss. Some times I'll go to pull away afterwards and I'm in neutral even though a moment ago I wasn't as I checked the light.

It almost feels like going up and down between 2nd - 5th is fine its just first that doesn't like me.

Also sometimes to make sure I'm in first I keep stamping on the shifter loads of times before I release the clutch only to realise I'm in second.

What am i doing wrong?

P.S I have noticed sometimes when I click to first when still pulling on the clutch the bike jerks forward a little. Is this still normal?

:stupid:

nope, this doesn't work once stationery there is no movement through the box to assist gear change, so if your looking to stop then gear down accordingly, this works in two ways

if you do stop you can click once for 1st or neutral or if an opening becomes available you are in a driveable gear..

this happens to me when i first come to move off after the bikes been stood, i clunk into first, but always have a handful of clutch and front brake, therefore no movement forward until i'm ready, and if the clutch fails then i'll stall which is better than shooting forward into possible danger
