Hey Folks

basically, i am struggling with lugging my spare helmet around. It was ok a while back because i wasn't giving people lifts very much because the weather was bad, but now, people seem to want lifts everywhere. which is fine, i am always taking passengers.

I used to just clip my spare helmet to the strap of my backpack but then if you break hard enough i am sure the spare one will come forwards and hit the one your wearing.

Basically, i need a way to transport a spare helmet and a bit of luggage (not round the world stuff but books and things). I was thinking top box, or maybe some throw over soft luggage panniers. Problem is i have double exhaust so i don't know if thats a good idea or not.

thanks

looks a fairly cool option. and if i leave the visor down shouldn't be too much hassle if it rains.

don't think soft case panniers would fit one in??

The old school way is to slip a full face over your wrist with your hand through the hole, so it sits over your elbow. Can't imagine what damage it would do if you come off though. Probably break your arm. 8-)

Colin does have a very good point as per usual. I'd go for that actually, you've got two arms and if you break one you'll always have a spare.

If that doesn't interest you then yes most soft panniers will take a helmet and some other little things. I can fit my brother's XL sized helmet in either of my panniers and some gloves and a neck tube and a jumper just to pad it out a bit. However with panniers you've got the hassle of having to put them on and take them off and also depending on your bike they might get in the way for the passenger. Worth looking at either way. In terms of the exhausts - no problem. Panniers usually have hard bases in them and are built to be at least heat resistant enough to not be affected by the exhaust.

I use a net for mine have done for years never had one fall off and very cheap

yeh the net sounds a good option to be honest. and i reckon i can get one at my local bike shop and there wont be any fitting issues unlike the panniers. a bit off subject but does anyone know what box goes with this plate??? 'universal' ones dont seem to fit the metal bit.

cheers

Spare lid in a carrier bag (free from most supermarkets, or used to be) and a cargo net, perched on the back seat.. stops it getting wet, and out of the way. just be careful swinging that leg over.....

cheers.

yeh cargo net seems a plan. can take other stuff aswell if needed when i dont have the helmet. i will check out PGH in the mornin :)

I saw someone doing that exact same thing yesterday. But yeah, don't fall off.
