I'm looking for an armoured textile jacket for my friend in Hong kong where it gets really hot and humid. I have up to around £150 to spend and if that can get trousers that attach on then all the better but it's not essential. She's 5ft 2 so would probably need a ladies jacket although she's not feminine so I'd like to find one that looks just like a man's. Most importantly, it needs to offer good protection.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is always going to be a compromise, as the more holes any material has the weaker it gets, but I think you have 3 options.

Something like the Fieldsheer Mach1 jacket, which is a strong mesh jacket with armour in (I have one and its very very breathable, but not sure how good it will be at motorway level speeds).

Other textile jackets have vents in them (again my winter jacket has vents, but the airflow is not that good).

Finally the best compromise of all is a leather jacket with lots of perforations, probably better than the mach1 in higher speed accidents, but with less airflow.

I use the mach1 jacket in the summer when I am out and about locally, so likely to be under 70 mph and the highest risk to me is impact injuries or slower slides, it I am out for a spirited ride in the summer I have a leather suit that has pretty good airflow so keeps me cooler - until I hit town.

there is some good information about the mach1 and similar jackets if you google search "mesh motorbike jackets" and they are well in your price range.

i have a Heine gericke Air Jacket for the hottest days its armoured and is as cool as a jacket can be.

there's a back protector arm & shoulder padding too plus all the pockets and air zips so you can open or close airflow.

its a good jacket and well worth the £79 i paid :D

most textiles have an inner jacket that can be removed when the weathers warmer....
