MtotheJ Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 So i went to HG today to try on some leathers as i thought now im going to be doing long distances and the occasional junction on the motorway, oh and going a bit faster than i was on my 125, i needed some more protection! Tried on some alpinestars, jacket fine but trousers were too baggy round the ass area (as i have none). Then Arlen Ness, again jacket perfect, but trousers were extremeeeeeeeelyyyy tight round my calf so much so that i couldnt do up the zips but again baggy in the ass area! I must have tried on every make in there and not one pair of trousers fitted me!!! So i dont know what to do, i really want a leather jacket but what do i wear on the bottom half if i cant wear leathers? My textile trousers are ok in the winter (although may look a bit silly) as i can zip the two together. But in the summer what do i do? So what does everyone wear, leather and leather, leather and textile etc? Quote
techno Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I had a similar experiance only trousers fit jacket was too small.Thing is HG stuff (own brand) is compatible so bought some hg trousers and found a differently cut jacket that fit. Both have zips which allow you to fasten them together not that I do.But I do wear a water proof textile jacket with my leathers if weather looks dodgy! MtotheJ Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Get them altered. Wouldnt they just have to take chunks of leather out? Quote
Guest Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I wear textile jacket and leather trousers......And if you find an alternative make of trousers that fit, you need only have zip altered if it needs it. Quote
MtotheJ Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Yeah, i didnt think of getting two seperate brands. May try J&S tomorrow Quote
Guest akey Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I'm afraid mate, its a case of keep on trying.I think I tried about 8-10 suits on before I found one that fitted. Quote
JoshTimmins Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Leather and jeans? i mean the kevlar armoured jeans, etc but then you go the problem of the 2 not zipping together? i have the same problem (but cos im too skinny) Joshx Quote

I wasnt sure if there were any kevlar jeans that have the zip on the top. Maybe i should just eat a diet of fried food for a few weeks then i wont have a problem! Quote
Guest akey Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 My kevlar jeans have a zip at the back - red route Quote
yorbandit Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 BMF rally at peterborough next weekend mate loads of gear all cheaper than you get in shops Quote
jamesw Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 quite often the leather jacket will have both parts of the zip, in which case all you do is unzip the bit not sewn to the jacket and so it to the jeans.Sorted Quote
Colin the Bear Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Remember to assume the position when trying on leathers. Sleeves may seem a little long till you stretch out your arms and trousers may seem large till you get on the bike. Made to measure is allways an option or as has been said buy a close fit and have them tailored. Myself , I went for the buy them big and eat pies option Quote
Guest Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 now youve got a good sporty 600 have you not thought about a one piece suit they might just fit you better mate. Quote
PhatDad Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I have a big ass from years of skating, american football, and letting it turn to fat in my later years. I find the trousers hurt my ass after a while because they fit nicely when standing but as soon as I sit down on the bike they get tight around the cheeks and after a while the tightness causes it to hurt. So maybe you should check to see how tight they are when you are in the biking position as that's what they are intended for. Quote
wiffers Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 My kevlar red route jeans had a small zip at the back.I had a spare 3/4 zip on my jacket, so stitched that onto my jeans, now they zip together. Took a few hours as stitching is tight, I tied a good knot every few inches incase it breaks. Did 2 rows, one with an almost continous thread, the other with lots of smaller threads. The thread is really strong (can't snap) and double thickness. Now I can zip textile-textile or textile-jeansSo long as you get same make you can usually zip together. i.e. HG-HG or RST-RST etc Quote
cruz Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Leather is my preference but I do have textiles (only for severe winter use).I also have a baggy ass and regularly have the piss taken about it. But once I get on the bike I rarely need to move about as I am comfortable, have plenty of laughs watching the skintight wearers arseshuffling after a 100 miles or so. My leathers are for protection and not a fashion statement. All the pies and beer seem to have settled in the gut position. Quote
