Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Hey guys, I have an oil leak, I don't know where its coming from (I will jet wash it tomorrow so that should give me a better idea) My bike has a side stand so it collects on the front left bottom of the block and drips down. I have heard it either the gaskets or the rings. How would I know which? And Is this something I can do myself??Thanks Quote
Guest akey Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Luke,Until you can identify where the leak is from I'm afraid we cant help much, some seals are very easy to fix others can be a right nightmare.ID the location of the leak and let us know (poss with pics) and I am sure someone can let you know what sort of job it is. Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Ok thanks mate Ill let you know, I did try ID the leak before, but when I drive it home from the jetwash theres just a haze/spray of oil all across the front of the block. Ill let you know and post pics Quote

Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Will this do>?http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/Instant_Gasket_(40g).-ref-12380-5073-154.html Quote
Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Well I have ordered it Its just a quick fix really, I am hoping not to have the bike too much longer Quote
cruz Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Looking like an engine out job, probably would have been better to get a proper gasket may have even been less work. Hope you get it sorted soon. Quote
Guest akey Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Luke, sorry just back in.Looks like the gasket may have gone, the instant gasket will be a short term fix at best, really you should be draining the oil taking the cover off, removing old gasket, cleaning the surface and fitting a new gasket then re-filling with oil.Try the instant gasket but I dont hold alot of hope really, just make sure you fully degrease the whole area before applying the instant gasket. Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 instant gaskets a PITA, it gets everywhere it shouldn't and blocks oilways,Its £10 for a gasket for the generator cover, so why not give the bike a small service by drooping the oil, removing the generator cover, replacing the gasket and refitting the cover, then refilling with fresh oil, if you are getting rid of the bike at least you know you did it properly, not some half arsed job to sell on..just think, that could the bike your buying next.. plus if you try and sell it on here, we all know your shortcuts, Explod of BN125 Eliminator 1998 engine covershttp://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/ ... 1_d0b6.gifParts Listhttp://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1998-a1-b ... Guest Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Thanks for the link Franky, can you just verify, I need to buy the "generator cover" from here? http://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1998-a1-b ... E1431.htmlIll buy it - it looks USA so it might take a while to get here so at least the silicon will stop me running dry on oil. Quote

Bill_on_a_bike Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Should be a very easy job luke. And instant gasket is a nice temporary fix, but in the end it'll come back to bite you in the arse. Quote
