Guest Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I'm currently reading Motorcycle Roadcraft: The Police Rider's Handbook again, and try to apply a new technique from the book every time I go out on the bike. Are there any DVD's of a similar nature available that the good people of TMBF recommend? I've seen a few DVD's available (like the one by Mike Waite, or Advanced Motorcycle Training) but wondered what people thought of them.I'm planning on doing a BikeSafe course when work goes back to full time and full salary, then next year once I have a bit more experience, IAM or ROSPA. In the mean time, I'm trying to cram in as much information as I can to improve my riding Horness Quote

PhatDad Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I've just watched the 'A street, a track, an open road' clips and can't believe the crap they were doing in London yet weren't being commented on such as filtering past cars on the left etcHow likely are we to get pulled up by our respective police force for doing stuff like that? I presume London has it's own rules as at one point they came close to hitting a pedestrian as a copper was passing the other way. Quote

I saw that too I bet riding with a London motorcycle courier was a right eye opener The links to the DVD go to another site now - but I have seen a few copies floating around on eBay...The DVD by Mike Waite looks very good indeed, and seems to be the same techniques used in the Police Rider's Handbook. May give that a go. Quote
Guest akey Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Erm, are you watching the same video?? The panel do coment on the risks and legality of filtering, and when the rider (not one of the 3 riders in the film BTW) does come close to the pedestrian they reshow it and the copper on the panel certainly comments on it.They also comment on the speed at times and the filtering up to a pedestrian crossing. Guest Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 ...does come close to the pedestrian they reshow it and the copper on the panel certainly comments on it.Must have missed the comment - my excuse is I'm watching at work with the sound quite low. Quote
PhatDad Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 They commented on some of the filtering but 80% of the filtering was just wrong. Filtering between pavement and moving vehicle I'm sure I saw at one point. Isn't that undertaking? Not that I care as I'd love it if the cars just did there thing and we were allowed to do ours anyway we wish as long as the car drivers aren't affected by our manoeuvre's then it's all good. More risky for sure, but all good baby. Quote

houltmac Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I had a chat with Mike a while back in email and he was really friendly and helpful. He sent me a copy of the DVD for free and I have to say it was really good. The techniques are simple to understand and well demonstrated. It's easy stuff, you just need to be mindful of it.I'd also say its worth checking out his YouTube channel: advancedriderI also watched the above discussed videos and I'll be ordering the DVD. Quote
Guest Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 "Great Roads Great Rides & Great Roads Great Rides 2"England's motorways and major A roads are among the safest in the world, but still far too many riders are coming to grief on the roads.Biking is a great pastime and becoming increasingly popular. We want riders to enjoy using the strategic road network, and to do it safely."Great Roads Great Rides 2" is a new resource including a DVD film and interactive package. With clever filming techniques, it puts the viewer on the bike, inside the helmet and close to the road, and features a 14-minute ride-out from motorway on to urban and countryside roads. The DVD film features rider Glenn Julian, a RoSPA Diploma holder, who takes the viewer on his journey and delivers on-going observations as he rides, helping viewers to spot the clues from the road environment ahead.Riders can then use the second section, offering an interactive challenge when the disc is used with a computer. Here the ride-out section freezes at specific points so the viewer can have a go at identifying the clues that they would use when reading the road ahead. When the viewer gets a highlighted clue right they score a point. There is also an option to display all useful hints and tips throughout the journey. and get the 2 dvds, great roads, great rides, 1& 2 from here...http://www.highways.gov.uk/knowledge/11526.aspx http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... =4&t=25163 Quote
