Ingah Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 My N-reg CB500 is fast getting up to 47K miles. This is good, but i'm aware it is an old and high-mileage bike so i wondered if anyone had any top tips to keep it in excellent condition because i'm soon not going to be in a position to throw money at it? (apart from the blindingly obvious things like not to rag it from cold, to do the basic maintainence, and to definately change the engine oil as recommended!)E.g. Have already invested in a cheap chain oiling system (soon to be fitted) to prevent me having to pay out for another set of chain and sprockets any time soon. Quote
Guest Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 get a haynes manual, it will tell you how to maintain your bike, generally lube cables, change fluids as required, along with filters and plugs.keep it dry, and out of the rain, and lots of TLC, prevent rust etc.. Quote
cruz Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Wot WalneyFrankie says and also use the bike.No bike likes to be stood idle, older bikes even less so, Things tend to get stiff and worst case seize up. Bit like humans do Keep active and supple and things last longer. Quote
Colin the Bear Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 47K It's only just run in. Change your oil and filter and air filter more often than the manual says, stay away from the red line, and it'll run forever. This post by no means should be considered as any sort of warranty Quote
