Just up in the garage working on me CB5. Originally just came up to fit a loobman but decided to do some checks. Following my haynes I looked at the underside rear of the brake caliper but there are no _visible_ wear indicator cut outs there and i'm definately looking at the right bit. So to confirm my fears what's the wear limit usually on CB500 and the like brakes? (e.g. 20mm of pad left to go).

hi

average brake pad thickness is around 6mm so when its down to 1.5mm your nearly there.hth

if you are going to fit new ones don't forget to clean the pistons before you push them back in as all the crap on them will give you hassle later.

also check your fluid level afterwards as it may be over-filled with new pads and again this can cause fluid lock if its to full :)

i take it you mean 2mm, not 2cm (20mm)

Some pads don't have wear indicators on them. The EBC pads that I put on mine a couple of months ago don't. The best thing to do is have a look in your Haynes and see what it says. Brake pads are easy to take out and check, you could even get a tape measure out if you're not sure...but if it's that bad then you might as well get new ones anyway!
