Brake Pads GG or HH???

Recommended Posts

Whats the difference between GG and HH pads, i've seen both, the HH are sintered, and probbaly better for fast riding but which would be better for me..

my riding style

Bike is a GSX750 Retro naked, so no 3 figure stuff, i'm not a trackday demon either, just fast roads and getting up and sitting with the speed limit (weather and traffic permitting) mainly dry weather and weekends, tend to ride off the box, rather than on the brakes...

All comments welcome..

Thanks

Whats the difference between GG and HH pads

HH Pads - These have the highest coefficient of Friction and are ideal for High performance motorcycles and race track use. Some modern performance motorcycles specify HH as standard. HH Pads can sometimes prove grabby, scary in the wet and ineffective in every day use when they fail to reach a good operating temperature.

GG Pads - This grade of Pad is a great all rounder and will perform well in most conditions. GG are softer than HH pads and bed in quicker on worn discs.

Mixing HH and GG Pads - Many manufacturer specify HH for the front of performance Motorcycles with GG in the rear. This is because GG pads can give you more feel and control of the back brake. It is not considered safe to use HH in the rear with GG pads in the front.

Thanks Horness,

I had read some comments under another thread and thought that GG should suit my riding style, but wanted a second opinion...

i highly reccomend HH pads up front

you dont get as much feel with other pads as they are too soft and makes the brakes feel spongy :?

Stu, thanks.

I am overhaulin' the rear caliper at the moment as its suffered from the wet weather and suzuki's finish.. so have opted for GG pads on the rear. along with fresh fluid, and seals...

EDIT : the pads were shot, with one collapsed to the backing plate, and they were Goldfren sintered HH,

front brakes are next on the to-do list.. along with fork oil..

Soft pads aren't that soft, Any sponginess will be down to air in the system or tired hoses 8-)

Cheers Colin,

i think with my riding then GG will easily cope, along with fresh fluid and no air bubbles...

I think it depends on the bike and how you ride. I think gg would be fine in your bike/how you say you ride.

I had hh sintered in the blade and liked them, apart from the bloody hissing noise

but they had less feel than standard pads.
