MBEAM

Morecambe Bay Estuaries Advanced Motorcyclists (MBEAM) was founded on 17 April 2005, having started life in December 2000 as the Bike Section of Morecambe Bay Advanced Motorists.

The motorcycle group based in the Morecambe Bay area and affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists. Their President is 14 times TT winner and lap record holder, John McGuinness.

MBEAM's aims are to:

Improve road safety by raising riding standards

Prepare people for their Advanced Riding Test

Members of the public are invited to take out Associate membership of the Group and join one of their courses.

They are then given free on-the-road guidance by trained Observers who have passed the IAM Advanced Test. The course includes urban, rural and motorway riding.

Completion of the course enables the Associates to take their test with an IAM examiner who is a Class 1 Police Rider.

Passing the test will raise your riding standards by increasing your skills of anticipation and competence. You will also become more confident and aware of what is going on around you.

As a result of your improved skills your bike will also benefit because the wear and tear on it will be reduced.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just heard about this one. It's not in Cumbria but it nearly is.

The Bath Hotel, Morecambe, biker friendly pub. Plays live rock music and all the rest of it.

Our band is playing there on 1st of August.

57 Northumberland Street, Morecambe

I have to admit, i know nothing else about it, but i'm gonna try and get down there on the bike one evening this/next week (probably next week as the weather's supposed to be a lot better), then i'll report back. Would be nice to have an evening biker meet place up here.

Ok, went to The Bath this evening after work, it's a really nice pub! Only been open for 4 weeks. I'd only been in the place 20 seconds when one of the locals was asking me all about the bandit! A very friendly place. Parking for cars/bikes directly outside and a pool table.

Had a chat to the landlord who is into bikes himself, though he doesn't have a trusty steed at the moment, and he is aiming to have live music on fri/sat/sun nights, and an annual festival with bands playing on the roof!

Anyway, i said i'd report back, and I have! Aside from the fact that we're playing there on Aug 1st, I will definately be going back, especially as one of the best roads in the area (Devils to Lancaster via Caton) leads right to the place!

If anyone ever fancies a meet up/ride out on a nice summer evening (sundays are best, cos i finish work at 4.30), let me know!

Also in Eskdale is The Bridge Inn Santon, friendly Pub, good food, excellent beer (most importantly) - seen lots of bikes there - next door is The Old post Office campsite with level, gravelled area for bikes, but pretty small. Been there a few times wi van n dog.

Been to a couple of Whisler's Rock nights at Spatry Rugby club - a good night, nice bunch but a few too many greasy pony tails for my liking - n thats just the women
