Anyone know any websites that sell matt black and/or matt dark green full face and/or motocross helmets for under £40?

No pictures or fancy decor, just plain.

Youll be hard pushed, i think you should be setting your budget a bit higher for a helmet. Although it has been proven by the SHARP safety tests that expensive doesnt mean best, even the cheapest reasonably decent ones are going to be more than that.

Ah, okay £60 high enough? Or are you thinking in terms of £100+?

Well its hard to say really. But i reckon sub 40 its not going to be great! J&S Have got quite a range of helmets and they still have a 20% sale on at the moment. Make sure you just try a few on and then choose the one that fits the best, not the coolest or cheapest. I learnt that from experience after spending £150 on an AGV with a really nice design and after two weeks of riding i just coulndt get on with it and would have a splitting headache after 20 minutes!

There's a couple of helmets on the J&S website that match your description. Especially the HJC CLX-S

You can certainly get a Caberg matt black or other style but you would be looking at £100, full 5 sharp rating though if that really means anything!

With a Matt black helmet, if a got a stencil and spray painted it onto the helmet. It would look okay wouldn't it?

no.. i would ask a paint professional before spraying a lid.

i know with the polycarbonate (the ones with a seam down the middle) they react and weaken with spray and glues from decals etc.. so if you are planning on wearing it for safety then get expert advice..

if its for a project/artwork, then its fine but i would render it useless for purpose by removing the straps..

No I want a Matt black or green helmet for riding. Then in time, I'll customize it, with the odd simple stencil decal.

have a look at MandP.co.uk Clearance and give them a shout about whether it can be painted or decals applied, they will know or find out..

Cheap or not, it is pretty important that a helmet fits properly (i.e., snug in the right places and comfy). It would be way better to get a £100 lid than buy a rubbish £40 lid that you have to replace soon because you can't live with it. Literally.

Check out Caberg, Laser, Roof + others that have some neat designs and good safety ratings, but are also reasonably priced. Most importantly, get into a shop or two and try some on and take a knowledgeable mate or ask a salesperson for help.
