VTR Firestorm Engine seize

Recommended Posts

I am a new biker, passed in March 09, bought a firestorm and have now done 750 miles on it but the bike has blown up i believe.

It started tapping then lost half of its power, then when slowing down the engine would cut out. When i pulled up and tired to start it again the engine was seized.

Pushed the bike forwards and back while in gear, this freed the enigne a bit and then was able to strike the bike up. But it sounded like a bag of nails. Left it for the week and checked oil level, it showed in the lense that there was no oil in it but the day before it went it was just under the limit. No signs of oil loss.

Before this it was running very hot and would run in the red often. Took the thermostat out to allow water to follow and then ran cool but only for about 40 miles then blew up.

Has anyone any ideas what could have gone? and whether it would be cheaper to repair or get a new engine.

If it was running hot you probably had an airlock, or maybe the water pump was broke. Unfortunately now its got major problems. You really need someone to take it apart before you can consider if its cheaper just to buy a new engine. :(

Theres plenty of second hand engines around, just use a bit of common sense when buying, did you buy the bike privately or from a dealer?

just use a bit of common sense

sounds like that could be a challenge

your oil level was low and you knew the engine was running hot (in the red) and you took it for a 40 mile run.....

what did you expect :?:

the sight glass and temperature gauge have a purpose as you have now found out to your cost...

part from propper strip down and sort out which will cost there aint much you can do, tbh give a look into getting new bike, and if you want a new engine i might know where there is one  good price to

The forty mile ride was when the bike was running cool, after the thermostat was removed.

The bike would run warm but once it was getting towards 3/4's i would pull over and allow it to cool. After the trip of running hot i took it to the garage to get it sorted.

Thanks for the comments i was after some help, not someone giving me hassle.

Where do you know where to get an engine from?

me, i considering buying the storm back off the ins company and loking at doing her up but if it wont be worth it a will seriously consider selling you the lot n you can have the engine, which has nothing wrong, but at the moment i am in arguements with the ins comp as to whos fault it all was, will keep you posted,

how bad is it, you said you have managed to move it when in gear, you could strip it down and see what damage has happened but it depends on how much time and energy you want to put into it, where you from?
