Colin the Bear Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Leather is never totally waterproof but it's resistance to water penetration can be enhanced by oiling with castor oil or spraying with a proprietory leather proofer (makes em squeak and creak tho) or waxing. Saddle soap helps too. Eventually the rain will get through and you will find out the quality of the dye used by your legs and arms Quote
zzr lon Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 as above hope you have some good shower gel.if its more than a little shower you need a over suit or textiles Quote
Phil_D Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 i thought leather jacket could dry out and crack i the sun if they are not weatherproofed? Quote
Susieque Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 They possibly could, but as long as you 'feed' the leather with oil/wax it should keep it supple enough for that not to happen. If drying them at home, keep away from heaters/radiators and let them dry at room temperature Quote
nman1 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Funny how leathers not waterproof.....have you ever seen a cow fill up when it rains ????On a more serious note, I have used a waterproofer (forget the name) It helps a bit when you get caught out but It`s by no means fully waterproof. For that you`ll need to get a good over suit. As others have said if you feed the leather with proprietary stuff the leather becomes more subtle and more comfortable to wear. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Funny how leathers not waterproof.....have you ever seen a cow fill up when it rains ???? They don't fill up because as the water goes in the top, it leaks out of the bottom just as fast. Have a closer look at one next time it rains. Quote

A bit like drinking beer thenThe thing about leather, it offers the best protection if you end up sliding on your bum, but not the best protection against water, good to wear in summer though Quote
rennie Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 in the old days you'd spill beer all over them, never clean the dead flies off etc. it's funny how they seemed to be more waterproof! Quote
