Hi gonna start bike lessons soon, havnt done the cbt yet but hopefully this or next weekend. I also want to get the theory out of the way soon as well, but do you need your cbt to do your theory, or is a full driving licence sufficient?

Cheers

Hi there! :D

You don't need to have passed your theory to take your CBT. As long as you have the provisional bike entitlement on your licence then off you go!!

Hi, sorry i meant it the other way round do you need your cbt to do your theory? Just I get a date for the theory before the cbt.

Havnt got my licence with me at the mo so not sure. Do all full driving licence have the provisional bike entitlement on?

Erm I think you do need your CBT to do your theory. i seem to remember having to take my CBT certificate when I did mine.

As for whether your licence has the bike entitlement, I think that could depend on when you got your licence - not sure though.

I'm old  and still have a paper licence which has it on. Not so sure if newer licences do

no. took my cbt a short while ago and others there had theory certificates already.

Booked my theory and took it a couple of days ago (and passed - yay!) and they didn't ask for my CBT certificate.

Pretty sure you don't need to do either one first.

Ok thanks, Ill get them both booked asap then and see which one comes first.

well just looked at my licence and found i could drive B, B1, f, k, p.

Looking at this http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Dr ... DG_4022547

P is Mopeds with an engine capacity not exceeding 50cc and a maximum design speed not exceeding 50km/h

Would this a provisonal bike entitlement?

Yeh..

If you want to drive a motorbike, and are applying for a provisional licence, you should indicate this on the application form. If you already have a full licence covering groups B, C1, D1 or P (see under heading The type of vehicle the licence covers), you can use it automatically as a provisional licence for driving a motorbike.

Taken from here..

Yeah, you will see on the paper part of your licence, there is a provisional section and cat A should be listed under that.

Thanks, looked at my paper part and seen the provisional entitlement.

Just getting off the phone now and got my CBT on the 20th, think Ill try and get the thoery booked for the saturday after. Better start swatting up for it.

I did my theory about a month before my CBT, you can do either first as long as you do them both before your DAS.
