XmisterIS Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Sometimes my bike won't go immediately into 1st from Neutral (I have to kick down on the gear lever 4 or 5 times) ... a friend told me I probably need to adjust the lever very slightly. How much is "very slightly"?How do I know when I've got it right? - most of the time it goes in fine, just sometimes it doesn't. MtotheJ Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Happens to me sometimes. What i found always works is to let the clutch out and squeeze again. Think its something to do with the gears clashing. Quote
Stu Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 does it jump farward when you finally get it into gear ?is it hard to get in to neutral from a stand still?is the bike still under warrenty ? Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 does it jump farward when you finally get it into gear ?Nope is it hard to get in to neutral from a stand still?Sometimes (but not often) is the bike still under warrenty ?Nope Quote
Stu Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 how much free play is in the clutch lever ? i cant see it been the clutch though as it goes in to neutral ok!!! Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 the clutch lever feels a bit "looser" than the front brake, but it seems to work ok! Quote
Stu Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 you should have 2-5mm of play at the end of the lever adjust it using the screw on the clutch lever so you only have a little play and try that Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 do you mean up/down play or back/front play? Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Ah! Ok, nope, there's pretty much no play at all front/back, it's just up and down that it kind of wobbles a bit. Quote
Phil_D Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Ah! Ok, nope, there's pretty much no play at all front/back, it's just up and down that it kind of wobbles a bit.I think what stu means by 'play' is the distance the lever can be pulled in by before you feel any resistance. 2-5mm play is ok, any more need adjusting Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 16, 2009 Author Posted June 16, 2009 Nope, the clutch seems fine - perhaps it is just the "clashing gears" thing that MtotheJ mentioned. Quote
Stu Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 its a 2007 model bike it should go straight in to gear!!!!has it been dropped before? is the gear linkage bent ? Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 its a 2007 model bike it should go straight in to gear!!!!has it been dropped before? is the gear linkage bent ? dont the SV suffer from a dirty gear rod seal.... take the sprocket cover off and clean out the muck behind it.. Quote
Stu Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 yes same as the TL but all it does is bust the seal it will still oparate as normal the sv has an uprated seal to compensate Quote
XmisterIS Posted June 19, 2009 Author Posted June 19, 2009 Yep, I have had the cover off and the crap behind thoroughly cleaned out.If you are saying it should go straight into gear, I will get it checked out by my local Suzuki dealer when it is due for a major service. It only does the not-going-into-gear thing occasionally though. Quote
Stu Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 also check the movement of the gear linkage it could be slightly seized and not moving properly Quote
